Y/N stood in front of the red brick ranch-style home in Algonquin, Illinois, rummaging in her enormous brown leather tote bag for the spare key to her best friend Caroline's house. She let herself in, quietly walking through the entry of the house and through the living room to the master bedroom. She laid eyes on the white wedding gown hanging in a garment bag on the front of the closet door, smiling to herself a bit as she thought about the day ahead. She glanced down quickly at herself, snickering at her appearance. She had on gym shorts and a hooded sweatshirt, with full bridesmaid hair and makeup done, and she smiled at the absurdity of it all. This was her 10th time serving as a bridesmaid, and she was basically an expert at this point.

She looked around the room, searching for Caroline's white satin stiletto heels, and when she found the shoebox, she grabbed it, setting it on the dresser as she scanned the room for anything her best friend may have forgotten. She glanced at her watch, checking the time as she had promised the bride she'd have her dress and shoes at the hotel by 2 pm, ample time before the 7 pm ceremony was set to begin. A thought occurred to her, and she went back into the closet, looking through the hanging clothes until she found Caroline's special white bathrobe with "Bride" written on the back in silver script. She shook her head, grabbing the robe out of the closet, and as she was turning around to gather everything, she was startled by the tall lanky redhead standing in the doorway.

"Y/N L/N," the soft-spoken voice said, and Y/N's head snapped up to attention. Her breath hitched a bit, and then she smiled slightly.

"Andrew Siwicki," she said, her eyes shining. "I wasn't expecting to see you here," she added, and the tall ginger man laughed a little.

"How are you Y/N?" Andrew asked, the corners of his mouth turning up into a grin. "It's so good to see you," he added, smiling as he looked over the tiny petite girl.

"I'm really good, Andrew. How are you? I'm sure Nathan is thrilled you made it. He said yesterday at the rehearsal that he was worried you wouldn't with all the flight delays," Y/N said. Andrew nodded a little, looking down as his six foot frame towered over the girl.

"Yeah, I mean, I'm already kind of sucking at being the best man since I missed the rehearsal, but I made it. I wouldn't miss these two's wedding for anything in the world," he said softly, smiling a bit. Y/N returned his grin with a genuine one of her own. "You don't suck," she said softly. "You've never been late for anything in your life."

Andrew looked Y/n over, smiling slightly to himself at the sight of his first love. Y/N and Andrew had dated during the last two years of high school and into the first year of college. They mutually broke up after a few months of long distance while attending two different colleges, and while they still kept in touch with each other through social media, they hadn't seen each other in person in several years. Andrew was set to serve as best man to his best friend Nathan as he married his high school sweetheart Caroline, and Y/N would be Caroline's maid of honor. Andrew had to admit that he'd thought to himself how he'd feel seeing Y/N again as he sat quietly on the flight headed from Los Angeles to Illinois. Y/N looked even more beautiful than he remembered, and he felt his face flush.

"You um... you look, you know... really good Y/N," he stumbled out, and she tilted her head slightly, her heart pounding at the sight of her ex-boyfriend. She followed his Instagram and knew how well he'd done in L.A., but it had been forever since they'd talked. He was always so sweet and kind, and seeing him again pulled at her heartstrings. She had been madly in love with him when they were together, and while she knew breaking up was the right thing, she had to admit that she missed him. Though she'd thought at the time that it was just puppy love, she'd realized over the years of dating other people what an amazing guy Andrew was.
