If there was one thing you could say about Andrew, it's that he's a workaholic. Rain or shine, no matter the situation, the boy never missed a day of work or slacked at all. He would show up to Shane's in a hurricane if he had to, taking his job as his editor and cameraman just that seriously. Shane and Ryland could count on one hand the number of days Andrew had tried to stay home or get out of working since he had joined "Team Dawson." Shane would often praise Andrew's work ethic in interviews or podcasts, saying that Andrew was the only person Shane had ever encountered who worked as tirelessly and passionately as Shane himself. Both had personalities which caused them to throw everything into a project, almost allowing work to be all-consuming. But Andrew also felt grateful to had stumbled upon a job as great as working for someone as creative and inspiring as Shane. Most of his friends his age from college or home only tolerated work, doing their jobs as a means to an end. Andrew thought himself lucky to have found a job where he could truly say he loved what he did. And he certainly wouldn't take that for granted.
Due to his insane work ethic, Shane always knew when Andrew was really really sick. Like the kind of sick that you couldn't hide. Shane got sick a lot, and he was also somewhat of a self-admitted hypochondriac, while Andrew never even seemed to get so much as a sniffle. And so Shane took notice on a cold day in January when Andrew showed up to the Adams-Dawson house with a pale face, red nose, blood-shot eyes and a hacking cough. He always wrapped himself in the coziest hoodies and sweats available on the market, mostly due to how ridiculously cold Shane insisted on keeping the house, but on this day, he had a long-sleeved shirt under his trademark Adidas hoodie and the biggest coat he owned, yet he was still shivering underneath all the layers of fleece. As he walked in the door, he didn't immediately get on the ground to wrestle with Uno and Honey, instead throwing his backpack on the ground and collapsing in a heap on the couch.
Ryland and Shane immediately eyed their red-headed friend with a mix of concern and suspicion, not used to their pal looking so downtrodden and sad. Andrew was perpetually optimistic, always greeting the guys with a smile on his face and some positive quote or saying about how great a day it was sure to be. He was a direct contradiction to his boss, who always thought the worst of everything. But today, when Ryland asked the cameraman how he was doing, Andrew responded with a raspy "Aw, I'm OK I guess. Just tired." All of the parental instincts in Shane came out of him, immediately telling his friend "Andrew, you don't look good buddy. Are you OK? Maybe you should see a doctor?"
"Aw, I'm fine Shane, just a little under the weather. Nothing to worry about," Andrew said quietly, resting his head on a throw pillow on the couch as Uno ran up to his faithful friend, rubbing his head against Andrew's shoulder as if even the dog could see he wasn't right. "We've got a lot going on Shane, let's get started," the red-head managed to mumble out, determined to charge through whatever pain he was in and accomplish the duo's enormous to-do list.
Ryland eyed Shane and went to grab a thermometer from the kitchen while Shane glanced at Andrew from the chair across from him. When Ryland returned with the thermometer and a cold wash cloth, Andrew looked up weakly, wondering what his friend was up to. "Let me take your temperature bud," Ryland said gently, leaning over Andrew and imploring him to open his mouth. Ryland gasped out loud when he pulled out the reader, shouting, "Oh my god Andrew, you have 101 fever!" Shane's eyes were wide as he looked at his cameraman with horror.
"Oh, no Andrew, I bet you have the flu!!! It's been going around," Shane said anxiously, and Ryland rolled his eyes, immediately knowing that Shane was worried they'd catch it. Ryland patted Andrew on the arm and told him, "You don't look good buddy, but maybe you don't have the flu. Why don't you go to urgent care?" Andrew looked at Ryland with his glossy brown eyes, shaking his head a little in agreement. "Maybe I will," Andrew said quietly.
