"Garrett, please come on, I've gotta get downtown to do Cole's Podcast Outside. We really don't have to time to stop and rescue yet another bug," Andrew said, his voice sounding completely exasperated. He watched with furrowed brows as his gigantic best friend crouched down on the sidewalk, examining a tiny beetle as he crawled along. Andrew sighed out, trying to hide his obvious annoyance at Garrett's dawdling. He had promised his friend Cole that he'd do an appearance on his podcast and he didn't want to disappoint him. He was generally pretty patient with Garrett, but this particular day he couldn't help but urge his buddy along.
He yanked Garrett's arm a bit, trying to hurry him down the street, and Garrett groaned at Andrew pushing him. The two friends bickered back and forth as they rushed down the street to where Andrew was supposed to be meeting Cole and the podcast co-host Andrew, and the redheaded videographer was so engrossed in the conversation with his friend that he barely noticed when he bumped into a pretty young girl dressed in a navy blue skirt suit. He gasped, immediately feeling awkward that he had run over some poor unsuspecting girl on the street, and he jerked his head up, stammering out a nervous apology.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I'm really..." he said breathlessly, and then he looked up into the girl's eyes and gasped. "Y/N? Is that you?" he asked, stopping in his tracks as he laid eyes on the blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl in the suit. The girl looked up at him, her doll-like eyes wide. "Andrew?" she said, voice a mix of surprise and a tinge of fear.
"My god, I haven't seen you in, what... like five years?" Andrew asked, flashing the girl named Y/N a grin, and she returned his smile with a tight, uncomfortable one of her own. "Yeah, since college graduation, I guess," she said, biting her lip as she frowned at the memory.
"What are you doing in L.A.?" Andrew asked, scratching his jaw a bit, and Y/N paused. "I um... well, I live here now," she said softly, voice barely a whisper, and Andrew tilted his head. "Really, you live here?" he asked, kind of unable to believe that he didn't know she was there. "Yeah, um... I got a job at a law firm Downtown so..." she stammered out. Andrew raised his eyebrows. "How long have you been here?" he asked her breathlessly, and she sighed. "About six months," she told him, and Andrew drew in a breath. "That long? You never... how come you never reached out?" he asked, and she shook her head a little. "Well, um... you know... I figured you were busy and..." her voice trailed off as she looked into those familiar chocolate brown eyes.
Andrew introduced Y/N to Garrett, and she quickly said hello and then started to rush away. "Y/N, wait... let's get together. Why don't I text you?" Andrew called out, and Y/N bit her lip. "Um... yeah, maybe so. I gotta get to court but it was... well, it was nice to see you," she said, walking quickly away as Andrew stood there, dumbfounded. He shook his head to himself, trying to process what had just happened, and Garrett looked at him incredulously.
"Was that... was that the Y/N?" Garrett asked, and Andrew nodded nervously. "Um, yeah... that was her," Andrew said softly. "Come on Garrett, we really gotta go," he said, clearing his throat as they rushed off to the podcast, his mind a million miles away as he thought of her.
Y/N and Andrew had met their second year of college at a party at Andrew's fraternity house. Y/N was a beautiful, popular sorority girl and she'd come to the "Devils and Angels" themed exchange with Andrew's fraternity dressed in a short white skinny-strapped dress with wings and a halo, making every guy at the party drool. Somehow Andrew ended up talking to her all night, and he stole himself and asked for her number, asking her to get coffee the next night. To his utter surprise, Y/N agreed, and they started dating immediately.
Andrew had always been nervous, shy and not super-confident around beautiful girls, but Y/N adored him, having eyes for no one but Andrew. For the first time in his life, Andrew felt confident. Y/N was gorgeous, outgoing and completely in love with the ginger guy, and for the next two and a half years, they dated exclusively. They were so in love that most of their friends envied them, and Y/N would have sworn they'd be together forever. But then she got into law school at prestigious University of Michigan. It was an amazing opportunity, but the trouble was that Andrew had his sights set on L.A. and working in the entertainment field. Y/N would have never held him back, and she even offered to follow him to California. But Andrew wasn't sure about having her uproot her life for him. Instead, he ended the relationship on their college graduation. Y/N was devastated, and Andrew was too, but he insisted to Y/N that they were just too young to commit that seriously and that the breakup was just about distance, not about the way he felt about her.
