"Garrett!! Are you in here?" a soft melodic voice called out from the front door. Andrew was sitting on the couch in Garrett's tiny house, watching University of Michigan and Ohio State play football on TV because his cable was out and it was on ESPN. He looked around, hearing sniffling coming from the front hallway, and as he glanced up, he saw Y/N, Garrett's beautiful next door neighbor standing there with a red, tear stained face. The girl had lived next to Garrett since he'd moved into the house two years prior, and although she was completely opposite of his quirky personality, she and Garrett had immediately bonded. Y/N was a kindergarten teacher, and she was as sweet and kind-hearted as they come. Garrett had immediately seen the similarities between her adorable nurturing personality and his beloved mom, and they hung out constantly and talked about everything. She'd even fixed him up on dates before, intent on finding him a sweet and handsome boyfriend. Garrett adored the girl.
"Oh hey Andrew," Y/N said softly, tucking some of her auburn hair behind her ear and looking down at her feet before glancing up at Garrett's red-headed best friend. "Hey Y/N, are you Ok? Garrett isn't here, he's on a date with that guy Max that he's been talking to," Andrew said nonchalantly, and Y/N bit her lip.
"Oh, alright," she said wistfully, sighing a little. "What's up? Did you need something?" Andrew asked, glancing up at the girl with his patented sweet grin. "Oh um... well, I was just hoping to... you know, I just needed Garrett for... just to talk to him. But I'll catch him later," she stammered, and Andrew shrugged. "Ok, I can tell him you were looking for him but, not gonna lie, he said he if the date went well, I shouldn't expect him back tonight," Andrew said with a snicker.
Y/N looked at him with squinted eyes. "What are you doing?" She asked the redhead, always finding it funny that Garrett's best friend liked to hang out at the tiny little house when Garrett had told her before that Andrew had a two bedroom apartment. "Um... my cable's out so I'm borrowing Gare's ESPN," he said with a shrug. "What's wrong Y/N? You seem... not yourself," he said, making eye contact with her pretty green eyes.
Andrew was at Garrett's house 24/7, even more so now that they were working together on their podcast, and he had to admit that his frequent run-ins with his friend's beautiful and sweet neighbor were a big factor in the redhead's willingness to hang out at the tiny house. Every time he laid eyes on Garrett's gorgeous female friend, his heart would race. He'd always wished he had the nerve to ask her out, but he was so intimidated by her, sure she was way out of his league.
She folded her arms a little, shrugging sadly. "Nothing, it's just... well, I don't know, I'm just having a rough day," she said softly, and Andrew nodded, looking at her with concern. "I'm sorry Y/N. I know I'm no Garrett but... if you want to hang out, I mean... I wouldn't mind the company," he told her softly, and Y/N blushed. "Um, well... OK. I'd rather not go home and be alone so... if you're sure I won't bother you," she told him quietly, and he grinned. "You wouldn't bother me!" He told her with the sweet smile that generally melted girls. "Just as long as you're not a Michigan fan," he teased, and she laughed.
"USC," she said with a grin, and Andrew playful groaned. "Oh no!" He gasped with fake shock, and she giggled. "Who do you like?" She asked, and he smiled widely. "Noted Dame... born and raised," he said with a flourish, and Y/N rolled her eyes playfully. "Not surprised," she told him with a sassy grin, and Andrew couldn't help but laugh at how adorable the teacher was.
He offered her a drink, and then he laughed as he rummaged through Garrett's kitchen. "No surprise here, but Gare's got nothing," Andrew said with a wry smile, and Y/N couldn't help but laugh. "Well, um... I have some drinks and snacks at my house," she offered, and Andrew raised an eyebrow. "Do you have cable?" He asked her with a grin, and she nodded. "Of course," she said easily, and Andrew pumped his fist. "Well, then what are we waiting for? This tiny house has nothing on you," he told her with a cackle, and the sound of his laugh made her heart soar, immediately putting a smile on her face.
