"Oh my god, we really have to hurry, her flight gets in at 3!" Andrew said from the backseat of the G as Ryland drove he and Shane to LAX. Shane had never seen Andrew so excited, his red-headed partner in crime generally the calm, relaxed and rational yin to Shane's excitable, dramatic yang. Shane laughed loudly at his buddy, shaking his head a little.
"So this reaction is meant to convince us that this Y/N is "just your childhood friend" huh?" Shane asked sarcastically, side-eyeing Ryland as Andrew looked nervously out the window.
The three were off to pick up Y/N from the airport, the beautiful blonde-haired blue-eyed girl whom Andrew had called his best friend since they'd met in kindergarten at their elementary school in Algonquin, Illinois. Andrew's mother and Y/N's became fast friends as "room moms" for the class, and their constant gatherings caused their two kids to become inseparable. Andrew had always been completely loyal to Y/N, mostly because she was the kindest, sweetest girl in the world. As they went through middle and high school, the pretty athletic girl became a popular cheerleader and was even on the homecoming court, as the shy introverted red-head often watched from the sidelines. But she always went to him for everything, always inviting him with her to every party and spending countless Friday nights holed up in his basement watching basketball or playing video games. They even went to senior prom together, with Y/N asking Andrew to be her date after his high school girlfriend had dumped him the week prior. The picture of the two of them posed in front of the back drop sat in both their parents' homes, along with photos of the two dressed in their graduation gowns and on their senior trip. After high school Y/N went to college in Michigan while Andrew stayed in Illinois for school, and just as Y/N had moved back home to attend medical school, Andrew had started to get into entertainment and had moved to Los Angeles. They still kept in touch, talking and texting, but they weren't as close as they had once been. Still, Andrew counted Y/N amongst his closest friends and she felt the same about the sweet red-headed boy who always had her back.
Andrew still remembers every word of the conversation they had the day a few months ago when Y/N called him excitedly to tell him that she had "matched" in her residency program at prestigious Cedars Sinai Hospital in L.A. A budding OBGYN, Y/N had hoped for the specific program because of the fertility specialists that led the program. She had studied hard in school and was overjoyed to be selected for the spot she wanted, and she was relieved to know at least one friend in L.A. as she moved to an unfamiliar location. Andrew was thrilled for her, both because he regarded her as the smartest friend he had, and also because he was selfishly excited to see her in person more often.
"I don't know how much free time I'll have Andy," she told him, using the nickname she had called her friend since practically the first day they'd met. "But I can definitely make time for lunches and stuff, and I'll have days off. Maybe we can even go to the beach!" the golden-haired beauty exclaimed over the phone. "Definitely, and I'll be here to help you with anything you need to get adjusted," Andrew told her. "You're always there to help me Andy!" the girl exclaimed, and Andrew could basically see her grin over the phone. She always praised him for being such a loyal friend to her, but the truth was that she was just as loyal to him. She was the first person in his life to encourage him when he wanted to move to L.A., and she constantly gushed about him to their hometown friends, telling everyone who would listen how talented and successful he had become. If he was being honest with himself, he adored her and couldn't wait to see her as often as possible.
As the three boys arrived at the pick up area at LAX, Andrew scanned the crowd to try to spot his friend. They'd been texting back and forth about her arrival time and he was sure she'd be walking out any minute. As he was beginning to get nervous that she had possibly gotten lost in the enormous airport, he saw her coming out, dressed in leggings and a sweatshirt, dragging an enormous bag behind her, an equally huge tote bag on her tiny shoulders. "There she is!" Andrew yelled, his voice louder than Shane and Ryand had ever heard it in the three years they'd know their cameraman, and as he hopped out of the G to greet her and get her luggage, both Shane and Ryland collectively gasped at how stunning the budding doctor was in person. They'd seen pictures of her and heard plenty about her from Andrew, but she was more gorgeous than they had even realized, and they looked at each other knowingly as she threw her arms around Andrew and hugged him tight around the neck.
