A/N: This is based on the old Taylor Swift song "Begin Again." My job is to teach dance and choreograph, and some of my advanced students are working on a competitive piece to choreo I did to the Madilyn Bailey version of the song, which is beautiful. Anyway, enjoy.

Y/N stood outside of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in West Hollywood on a cold day in December. She was dressed casually in jeans, boots and an off-the-shoulder white sweater, wrapped up in a blush-colored Lululemon puffy coat on top. She took a deep breath, her face full of anxiety and tension. She was going on her first "first date" since she'd ended her two-year relationship with her ex-boyfriend Sam, and she was filled with equal parts terror and dread, with a healthy dose of skepticism for good measure. She couldn't lie. She wanted no part of this date.

Sam had been Y/N's first love, the guy she'd met in college and dated exclusively. They'd moved to Los Angeles together so Y/N could pursue a career in casting while Sam got his MBA. Sam had always treated Y/N as inferior, and as she'd been young when they'd gotten together, it had taken her a while to realize that his subtle digs at her and tendency to fight dirty was taking a serious toll on her self-esteem. Y/N was beautiful and smart, and she'd been popular in school, always surrounded by a gaggle of friends, but after two years with Sam, she'd become a shell of herself, no longer sure of her talents or humor. The relationship with Sam had turned to a point where it was bordering on abusive, at least verbally, and Y/N finally had enough, ending the relationship after it went on longer than it probably should have. Eight months later, she hadn't so much as looked at another guy, and she really wasn't interested in finding anyone new.

But then she met Andrew at a party at their mutual friend's Mila's house. Mila was dating Andrew's friend Chase, and she and Y/N worked together at a Hollywood casting agency. Y/N and Andrew had hit it off at the party, and Y/N had to admit that Andrew was sweet, handsome and charming, but she still wasn't sure she was in a place to date anyone. Her entire self-worth was in question after the time spent with Sam, and she wasn't at all sure that she was ready to begin again.

Andrew had begged Mila and Chase to get him Y/N's number, and when Mila had asked Y/N what she thought of the idea, Y/N told her friend she wasn't sure about it. Mila insisted she give Andrew a chance, frankly worried about Y/N and her negative headspace when it came to dating. Y/N agreed mostly to get her friend off her back, and so Andrew had called Y/N and asked her to coffee. Y/N was sort of dreading it, her head filled with thoughts of Sam, and she was sure this soft-spoken tall redhead would be just another guy to end up hurting her and wrecking her life. She wasn't ready for that, and as she stood at the door of the coffee shop, she was sure the whole thing was a mistake.

She took a deep breath and pushed her way through the door. She mentally prepared herself to stand there alone, as she was sure Andrew would be late. Sam would always keep Y/N waiting everywhere they'd go, even years into their relationship. But to Y/N's utter shock, she saw the tall redhead sitting at a table waiting for her when she walked in, and when he caught her gaze, he stood up and gave her a little cute wave. Y/N tilted her head a little, studying him as she tried to hide the surprise on her face and she walked over to the table, greeting Andrew with a small smile. He gave her a cute side hug and held her chair out for her, and then he immediately asked her what she wanted and quickly hopped back into line to order her favorite caramel macchiato as Y/N sat at the table in shock.

He brought her coffee to her and she thanked him in a sweet voice. "I'm so glad to see you again Y/N," Andrew said in his trademark soft-spoken voice, and he flashed her an adorable grin. She wondered if his voice was always so soft, and she found it oddly soothing. "I'm glad to see you too," she said softly, looking down at her hands, and then she gazed back up into his mesmerizing brown eyes. "You look really pretty today," he said earnestly, scratching his jaw a bit, and Y/N could tell he was a little nervous, which she found adorable.
