A/N: Reader request - "Shane hires an assistant and Andrew and her like each other but they aren't allowed to date..." Thank for the request, hope you like it.
Andrew sat at his laptop, clicking away at clips for a conspiracy series the guys were working on as Shane reviewed resumes. He was in the market for an assistant, a step he had never taken up until this year, when his merch, palettes, series, and other business ventures became too much for him to manage on his own. At the urging of his agent Liz, Shane had finally agreed to find someone to help him manage his life, and he was down to three resumes. As he perused them carefully, he glanced up at Andrew, deep into editing with his headphones on.
"Buddy, do you want to take look? Andrew!?" Shane asked, yelling so his red-headed partner would acknowledge him. "What Shane?" Andrew asked softly, and Shane rolled his eyes. "The assistant resumes... I'm down to three. Do you want to look and help me decide who to call?" Andrew shook his head a little. "Nah, Shane, this is your thing. They're not gonna work for me. You're the boss," the red-headed cameraman said, glancing from Shane to his laptop.
Shane frowned a bit. "I think you know I think of you as way more than my employee," he told Andrew. "I want you to be a part of all the decisions in Team Dawson," he said, shooting Andrew a broad grin, and Andrew couldn't help but smile back at his best friend. The truth was that Andrew thought of Shane as way more than a boss. The iconic You Tuber was a best friend, big brother figure and mentor all rolled into one, and Andrew was thankful that, at the tender age of 27, he was living his dream. He didn't know how to repay Shane for what he'd done for him, but his limitless loyalty to Shane and his willingness to sacrifice all of his free time and energy in favor of Shane's creative visions told Shane all he needed to know about his work partner.
A few hours later, Shane was sat in his living room across from Y/N, a beautiful strawberry blonde girl with light green eyes and pale skin, tiny and petite with doll-like features. Ryland sat in on the interview, and both of the guys were thoroughly charmed with the 24 year old girl. She was brilliant, graduating top of her class from University of Chicago, and as a Los Angeles native, she had family nearby and was used to navigating the L.A. scene. She was kind, volunteering on the weekends at a women's shelter and she was outgoing, bonding with Ryland right away with their mutual interest in yoga, shopping and working out, while charming Shane with her easy personality and quick wit. She had already been an assistant for another influencer and was planning to go into talent management in the future. She was perfect, and Shane and Ryland offered her the job on the spot.
As she was leaving, Shane told her she could start Monday and told her to come to the house to meet everyone then and get started on learning the ropes. He was nervous, having never had an assistant before, but he was also excited at the idea of having someone to serve as his right-hand for all of his business stuff, freeing Andrew up to focus solely on making content with him. A few minutes after Shane and Ryland bid the pretty girl goodbye, Andrew wandered down the stairs in search of a drink.
"Well, it went awesome!" Shane shrieked, making Andrew laugh at how excited he was. "That good, huh?" Andrew asked in his general soft-spoken voice, and Ryland laughed. "We're both gay, but we're totally in love with her," he told Andrew, gesturing to Shane as the guys cracked up. "She's actually perfect. Like really perfect," Shane gushed, and Andrew nodded, a small grin curling up on his lips at his best friends' reaction to the new assistant. "I'm glad you guys are happy," he said simply. "When does she start?"
Shane smiled widely as he came into the kitchen, rooting for a Diet Root Beer in the fridge. "She's coming here on Monday to meet everyone and get started. I guess I better figure out what I'm gonna have her do this weekend," he said, nervously scratching his stubbled jaw. "Probably a good idea," Andrew said, shaking his head. "You don't want to pay her just to hang out and be our friend," he giggled to himself. Shane looked at him a little, scrunching his brows. "Listen, Andrew, she's awesome, and I think you'll love her, but you can't date her." Andrew raised his eyebrows, taken aback by Shane's comment. "What Shane? Why would you even say that? I haven't even met her." Shane nodded, pursing his lips. "I know. But I just... I don't want you dating her. Like you can't." Andrew flashed Shane a very aggravated look as Ryland looked from his fiancée to their ginger friend with wide eyes, backing slowly out of the kitchen, as he wanted nothing to do with this conversation.
