Reader Request – "As someone who struggles with mental health, I understand the cons of issues with it being romanticized. However, with that being said, I do enjoy it when someone is there to be kind, loving and comforting. If you're up for it, I would love a fluff chapter handling an anxiety attack or social anxiety. Love the book. Thanks!"
I hope you enjoy this. Thank you for the prompt.
It was a regular afternoon at the Adams-Dawson household, and the whole squad was there, all working away as usual. Andrew and Shane were sitting in the living room, both on their laptops, editing away at the Jeffree/Beauty series. Morgan and Garrett were sat at the dining room table, both editing videos that were long overdue to be posted on their respective channels, distracting each other by eating Cheeze-Its and recording Tik Toks. Ryland was in the den with Y/N, the assistant he and Shane had hired about three months prior to help organize their lives, and the two had tons of PR packages strewn about as Ryland decided which products to put on his Instagram stories and whether any of it was worth a video.
Y/N was a recent addition to their little family, having been referred to Shane and Ryland by Shane's agent. She was freshly graduated from college at the University of Texas and was hoping to eventually get into the entertainment industry, specifically in production, and one of her professors at school who was a friend of Shane's agent Jack had suggested her as an assistant. Jack in turn convinced Shane to hire the soft-spoken, pretty 22 year old to add some order and structure to Team Dawson, and ever since, she had been a part of the family. Both Shane and Ryland immediately liked the cute young girl with the soft Southern drawl, having come to Los Angeles from Waco, Texas. She was sharp as a tack, kind and funny, and she never hesitated to put Shane in his place or give Ryland a hard time. She came into the home and immediately took charge of the chaos, organizing the beauty room and the pantry, convincing Shane to figure out what clothes fit him and actually put them on, and she even got Morgan and Garrett to eat healthy... well, healthier. Y/N was shy and quiet, but she bonded with each of the friends, taking the time to really talk to them. However, she was somewhat guarded, and while they peppered their new friend with questions constantly about herself, they all felt like they were still getting to know her.
"She's honestly a female Andrew," Morgan told Ryland and Garrett that day when the three were in their car headed to Chipotle while Shane, Andrew and Y/N stayed behind at the house. "Like, she's so kind, so sweet, so much fun, but yet, mysterious. You want to know more, you know?" Garrett nodded in agreement. "Yeah, for the first week after you guys hired her, I thought she couldn't stand me!" Ryland snorted while Morgan glanced back at the sandy-haired giant of a man from the passenger seat. "Well, I mean..." she said with a gleam in her eye. "Hey!" Garrett exclaimed. "She likes me! Right Ryland?" He asked, scratching his neck and looking a little nervous.
"She likes you just fine Gare-Bear," Ryland said, rolling his eyes slightly. "I think she's just quiet, and if you think about it, we're all BIG personalities, except for Andrew." Morgan nodded. "She definitely is like Andrew, I'm telling you, they're twins." Garrett chimed in. "I think he's into her too. He always finds ways to bring her name up in conversation. Like, I could literally be like, ugh I had the worst burrito in history today. And he'd say, You know who loves burritos, Y/N! It's adorable."
Morgan started cracking up. "He does do that! Oh my god, I hadn't even thought of it. He should ask her out." Ryland shook his head. "Poor Andrew, we're always trying to force him into a relationship. I don't think I've ever even heard her mention him. She probably doesn't even notice him."
But she did notice him. Y/N had to admit that of all the squad members, Andrew was the one she felt most comfortable with. She was drawn to his shy, introverted demeanor and she immediately felt a sense of calm around him. It was very hard to be upset or stressed with Andrew in the room, and what the squad didn't know was that Y/N felt anxious and stressed a lot. Anxiety had plagued the pretty girl since she was young, and it had only worsened as she'd moved to fast-paced L.A. Although she loved film and production and wanted very much to be in that world, she found L.A. and it's social-climbing, hard-partying lifestyle to be utterly uncomfortable. There were so many things that made her want to crawl out of her own skin, from meeting new people to dealing with demanding industry people to just sitting in the freeway traffic. She had panic attacks at times, and sometimes her anxiety was more than she could handle. But for some reason, since she had joined the squad, she had felt a calm and peaceful vibe radiating from the red-headed cameraman. The house was usually complete chaos, but no matter what was going on, Andrew would always find time in the day to sit down with Y/N, talking to her softly about her day, her background, anything. He always made direct eye contact with her, and he had the softest brown eyes she'd ever seen. No matter how stressed she felt, she always liked it better when he was around.
