"So, we'll be home on Tuesday," Ryland said, dragging an enormous suitcase behind him as he checked his phone nervously for the time. "Try to play outside with Uno at least two or three times per day. And try to get Honey to go outside, even though she probably won't want to. And try not to let Cheeto outside, unless he's in his little cat backpack that Garrett bought." He looked back at Andrew, who was leaning against the counter in the kitchen eating a gigantic bowl of Cheerios. Andrew nodded each time Ryland mentioned something, saying "Check" after each item on his list. Ryland reached into the pantry to pull out the dogs' food and treats, and Andrew watched him quietly, waiting until he was done to say, "You know I'm gonna put all that stuff back once you guys leave right?" He chuckled a little, but Ryland didn't laugh. "Ry, relax. I've got it with the animals, I promise. I won't let anything go wrong. I treat them like my own anyway."
Ryland shook his head a little bit and smiled sheepishly, realizing how crazy he sounded. "I'm sorry Andrew, I know you know all this. I'm just anxious, I've never left the animals alone for this long before." He scratched his neck nervously and Andrew smirked. "I notice you haven't given me one direction about what to do if something goes wrong with Morgan." Ryland started laughing and Morgan's voice boomed from the living room.
"Hey, shut up!" she screeched loudly, walking into the kitchen and making a face at Andrew. "You're house sitting, you're not sitting for me. I'm not even going to be here." She scowled at her red-headed friend, who ragged on her as much as her own two big brothers. "I'm sorry, Morg. You can stay here if you want though," Andrew said, smiling at the blonde girl with a mischievous grin. Ryland rolled his eyes. "Honestly, her lack of responsibility is why we asked you to stay here Andrew, and not her." Morgan huffed at her brother a bit. "You guys don't appreciate me at all. I'd maybe stay if Y/N was going to be here, but since she has plans, I'm out."
Ryland and Shane were going on a much-needed vacation to their favorite place in the world, Las Vegas. They were going for their fourth anniversary and also as an informal scouting mission for possible wedding venues, as Shane was trying to convince Ryland to have a destination wedding at one of the luxury hotels on the strip. They were going to be gone for a whopping five days, the most time they'd ever been away since they bought the new house in Calabasas, and they had asked Andrew to house sit for them, feeling comfortable with him given the frequency with which he stayed at the house while working away with Shane. He had a lot of editing to do while the guys were gone, and he was happy to have a quiet week with the animals and without Shane's constant ideas for things they could do to add to their already-full plate of work.
Andrew had hoped his girlfriend Y/N, a third grade teacher at a local private school in Santa Monica, would be able to stay at the house with him, but she was set to be out of town at the same time, celebrating her friend Sasha's bachelorette party in Cabo. The two had been together for about 8 months, and while they spent most nights together at one of their respective apartments, both had roommates, and Andrew was excited about the prospect of having Shane and Ryland's enormous sprawling mansion to himself to hang out with the beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed teacher. But since she couldn't be there, he had decided to use the time to completely veg out, hanging in his PJs day and night, Postmating food and enjoying the quiet.
Shane bounded down the stairs with a bag half the size of the one Ryland had packed, a long list of work and house-related items for Andrew in one hand while he clutched his lap top bag in the other. "Shane, I sure hope you aren't planning to work while you're on this trip," Andrew told his best friend, glancing at the computer bag. "I really don't think that's what Ryland had in mind, bro," he teased. Shane rolled his eyes as Ryland yelled out from the hall "He's not working at all!" Andrew smiled and assured Shane that he would pick up the slack while the two were gone. "Just relax, have fun," he told Shane genuinely. "I'll take care of as much work as I can while you guys are gone." Shane scratched his stubbled jaw, glancing around the house which he admittedly hated to leave. "Are you sure you're not going to be too lonely, Andrew? What if someone tries to break in and massacre you?" Shane looked freaked out as Andrew gave him an exasperated look. "Jesus Shane! Where the hell do you come up with this stuff?? I'll be fine, chill."
