Chapter 11 - The Camera Calls You Back

"Hey Baldo, I'm going to your apartment right now. I'm currently grounded but I want to go outside for a bit-ugh, my wounds reopened!"

Son of a devil spawn. For crying out loud, what time does he think it is?

And to think that I'm in the middle of a sweet dream.

I removed the hair strands that got stuck inside my mouth while listening to his sentiments. Nasa'n na ba yung kutsilyo ko?

"Please don't call East!"

"Yeah! I'm calling East right now. Thanks for ruining my sleep!" sarkastikong sagot ko sa kaniya.

Sumilip ako sa may bintana at nakitang hindi pa sumisikat ang araw sa labas. Sunod kong hinagilap ang alarm clock na nasa may bedside table at nakitang alas dose pa lang ng hatinggabi.

"Wendy?"

"Are you asking me my name? Prank-calling at the middle of unholy hour isn't funny." iritadong tanong ko.

"Crap, I called the wrong number." painosenteng untag niya at tumawa ng hilaw. "Forget what I said earlier."

"Why the heck would you even mistook my number for oddball's?" I knew it. He must've named me for something close to a B-word in his contacts. "And what are you trying to do?"

I'm trying to suppress my irritation for having my sleep disturbed, but anyone who just spent two frickin' hours of finding ways just to fall asleep would of course be aggravated. This decides what kind of mood will I be having later in the morning.

"It's nothing-"

"Spill, or I'll call East."

"Fine! Fine!" narinig kong ipinarada niya sandali ang sasakyan at pinatay ang makina. "I'll have a sleepover at Baldo's."

"Why? Don't you have your own cushion that you want to have a sleepover?"

"That's not it. It's just that I can't fall asleep-"

"Kung hindi ka makatulog, magpatulog ka naman!"

"Sorry naman! Namali lang ng natawagan eh!"

If I heard it right, he said earlier that his wounds reopened. What in the world did he even tried to do?

"Anong nangyari sa 'yo?"

Nanatiling tahimik ang kabilang linya. Narinig ko siyang huminga ng malalim na animo'y sininghot na niya ang lahat ng oxygen sa mundo.

"I met the devil."

"If you're not going to stop beating around the bush, you'll meet another one." pagbabanta ko pa sa kaniya.

"I met him when I went to the hospital the other day. I heard him talking to my mom, spilling all his grudges. And when he found out that I was eavesdropping, he beat me up."

His tone doesn't even have a hint of being silly so I know that he's being serious about what happened, especially that their mom is involved.

"Well, you should've learned at least a thing or two from Aero and oddball." sagot ko at naghikab.

"Did you really think that I'm taking up violent classes from them during the guys' night out?"

"What else would you guys supposed to be doing that time? Answering a slambook? Sharing secrets about your crushes in school?"

"Of course, I didn't learn anything about violence from them. If I did, then I would've been being mourned for years now. You have an idea how monstrous were the strength that those two possesses." pangangatuwiran niya.
