I've lost count of how many times have I wiped the forming beads of sweat that runs down on my face. Being an avid fan of manga and fiction books, hindi ko akalain na mararanasan kong makapanood ng trial sa personal.
It's only been a few moments ever since the judge opened the trial. The stiffness of the atmosphere can be felt from the exchanged glances in between the defense and the prosecution.
The stenographer on the side's already smashing her fingers on the keyboard swiftly that her hands were almost invisible.
Beside me, Claudia and the others hasn't stopped whispering prayers simultaneously. I've decided to bow my head for a while and whisper mine, too.
The person in jail uniform being escorted all the way from the entrance isn't just a guy. That guy is my twin brother.
Naupo ito sa likuran namin, nakayuko at walang kibo. He's gotten thinner after almost two weeks.
Hinarap ko siya, "How's your sleep last night?"
"I'm fine. Just a little bit nervous of what could happen." anas niya at sumandal sa kaniyang upuan.
Natawag ng malalakas na yabag ang atensyon naming lahat. The prosecutor's standing, brimming with pride and unwavering confidence.
"The prosecution calls on the accused, Mr. West Stanley Acosta. Indicted with drug possession with 2 packets of shabu found in his bag on a car with a plate number of AB 0515, last November 12, ****. I hereby plead for the verdict of guilty."
"Calling on the defense council, would you like to cross-examine or rest your case?"
Tumayo si Attorney Hubert. "We would like to stay in the case. We then request of the verdict of not guilty."
Unang tinawag ng prosecutor ang pulis na umaresto kay West upang tumayo sa witness stand. After swearing on an oath from another officer, the prosecutor went near him.
"Do you confirm that the bag where you found the substance were actually the accused's?"
"Yes sir. The accused himself confirmed that the bag was his."
"How about the substance?"
"The accused refuses to acknowledge his possession with it. And so, we run a few fingerprint tests in it. After doing so, the fingerprints match with the accused."
My fingers twiddled nonstop as I gazed at the witness. He might be telling the truth because there's no hesitation from his eyes, but perhaps he might also be a pathological liar.
My heart's shrinking the more that the details has been laid on the trial. This is not yet the last phase, but if we won't be able to find an advantage here to prove our point, then this will be as well the last phase for us.
Attorney Hubert stood, "Objection, Your Honor! I believe the latter fabricated the results of the fingerprints."
"Objection overruled. Continue."
Bumaling ulit ang prosecutor sa witness. "What about the results of the confirmatory test?"
Inilapag ng pulis na iyon ang papel sa witness stand. "The confirmatory test results from the forensic laboratory examinations states that the substance confirms that it is shabu, same as the results that we got from the screening test."
"Is that all?"
Tumango ang pulis. "Yes, sir."
Bumalik sa pagkakaupo ang prosecutor. Sumunod namang lumapit si Attorney Hubert.
