You can always count on the dawn to represent new beginnings.

A lot of things lies ahead the horizon on your way to the summit.

Journeys that should've ended, journeys that seems to be for naught, and the past that will either pull or push you back or forth.

But what matters the most?

"It's a no, Lauren."

"But, Mom! It's been two years."

"Huwag kang makulit, Lauren. Kapag sinabing hindi puwede, hindi puwede."

I sank on my seat as I glared at her. It's not as if I'm a child to consult her for my decisions, but seeking for advice is most likely a huge help for me to decide on my own whenever I'm trying to weigh tricky situations with tricky conditions.

"For Pete's sake, Lauren! Sa dinami-dami ng lalaki d'yan, bakit sa delikwente ka pumatol?" hinilot niya ang kaniyang sentido habang manaka-nakang sumusulyap sa akin.

Her statement is quite presumptous. The circumstances right now is not like any other situation wherein a puppy eyes is enough to cut it.

"You've got effrontery to tell me on whom I should be with," labag sa loob na sagot ko, "You're talking as if you have good tastes in men."

"Aba't! Sinasabi mo bang hindi ka nagpapasalamat at tatay mo ang tatay mo ngayon?" hindi na niya napigilang magtaas ng boses. I can clearly see her temples pulsating, her tone is starting to turn erratic.

"That's not it. What I'm trying to say is that Papa wasn't also an ideal man." I reasoned, trying to maintain my posture. "Don't tell me you forget that he's a playboy back then? If not for the prank that you made to ploy on sneaking a love letter on your crush's locker which was mistakenly received by him, a different outcome would've manifested."

Hindi na siya nakapagsalita. Her mouth's attempting to compose words but everything that she says is inaudible.

"There's nothing wrong with it, and you're citing a completely different case, young lady." she finally managed to speak. "Of all guys, really Lauren? A deliquent?"

It seems that the tables has turned. We're locked in a staring contest to see who's more tenacious than the other.

"What's wrong with hooking up with a deliquent? It's not like he's a bad guy-"

"Everything is wrong about it, Lauren. You think he's not a bad guy? He's a deliquent because he's capable of doing things that you don't expect he can do." her eyes fixated on the ceiling as if she's starting to realize that this conversation's not going any further.

"Lauren.." Baldo, sitting on the couch next to me, mediated in and held my hand.

One of her eyebrows are raised towards him.

"Ma'am, naiintindihan ko po yung rason kung bakit mataas ang standards niyo sa lalaking makakasama ng anak niyo." panimula nito at nag-a-alangang tumingin sa kaniya. All of a sudden, all those uncertainties drawn in his face faded like vapor perishing in cold glass.

"Your daughter is a fine woman, afterall." This guy...

"So, what's your point?"

"If your standards in men for your daughter is that high," his thumbs rubbed itself at the back of my palm. "I'll just have to exceed over it, right?"
