For such a short moment, the drawback for the risk that I acquired were much longer. The pain is still pinching through, but not as worst as it is on the first day.
It's been two weeks since the doctor said it might take months even before my torn ligament can heal completely. For now, I can do minimal movement such as walking straight and that might be where my current limit lies.
"I'm sorry, Spencer. But it seems I won't be able to make it for this day." I replied over the telephone, playfully twirling the telephone wire in my fingers. "As much as I wanted to kill my boredom, I needed to not force myself to play."
"Yeah, I heard the situation from my trusted sources. If it's okay for your Mom, can I come over?"
"Oh, s-sure. I'll tell her later." I hesitated for a moment before reassuring myself.
We haven't talked to each other ever since that night. She leaves early for work, maybe to avoid me. But still, I'll find cooked viand on the pots for breakfast enough for two people. Well, she's not really a foodie and she only eats a few spoons.
"Okay, thanks. Get well sooner, I'll be inviting you in a lot of our matches by then... oh. I have to go, the boys are waiting in the court."
He then hung up. I'm about to go to the bathroom to take a short bath when the doorbell rang. Seems like I have to bear another minute wearing my pajamas.
Baldo was the first thing that greeted me by the time I opened the door. Seeing him wear a red cap backwards almost astounded me. There aren't that many instances where you'll see him wearing those.
He's in his usual black tees, although he's not in his casual jogging pants. Right now, he's wearing jersey shorts.
"What's up? Hindi ka nagpasabi na darating ka." bati ko sa kaniya.
"You said you're bored and wants to do something." seryosong tugon nito.
"Y-Yeah..."
"You promised you'll teach me basketball." sagot niya. "So, I came over."
Oh, curses. How could I forget that?
"R-Right. But I never said that it's today. I'm still recovering."
"I never said that you can demonstrate when you teach. You can simply tell me what to do."
You can see the burning determination in his eyes. He's really that desperate to learn, huh? How would I be able to say no to that cute face?
And then, I remembered Spencer.
"Wait, you remembered that Spencer and the guys are supposed to play with me, right?" tanong ko sa kaniya.
Kumunot ang noo niya nang marinig ang pangalang 'yon. From his reaction, I'm quite sure that he doesn't see where I'm trying to bring the conversation.
"What about that scrawny friend of yours?" naniningkit ang matang tanong nito.
"Maybe we can go over to them, and they can help you learn to play basketball." suhestiyon ko.
"No."
"Why?"
"Gusto ko...i-ikaw yung magturo sa 'kin." napako ang tingin nito sa paanan niya.
Maybe it really hurts his pride to ask another man to teach him play that it's pretty hilarious. Or maybe he doesn't like it when it's Spencer. I don't see the reason kung bakit mainit ang dugo niya ro'n sa tao, pero mabuti na rin yung subukan ko na pagkasunduin sila para hindi ako laging naiipit sa tensyon kapag nagkikita silang dalawa.
