"I'm sorry..."
"It's fine."
With low spirits, I met his eyes being shimmered with the candlelight between us.
"I'm really preoccupied with my twin brother. I'm sorry that I can't give this dinner an uninvited dinner." my sight went down on my sandals under the table.
He propped his arms on the table as he rested his head over it. "Tell me about it. It's better than being locked with awkward pleasantries, right?"
"Mmm." I nodded.
It isn't just the two of us here in the restaurant, yet it feels like everything's at a standstill and we're the only ones moving in the scene. Everyone's busy with their business, chit-chats and wine-drinking.
"Something feels off about the investigation, no matter how I look at it. The holdupper's fingerprints wasn't detected on those sachets." I tried to soften my voice as possible so that no one could overhear the conversation by chance. "I don't want to believe it, Aero. I have faith in West, yet the evidences are all pointing against him."
There are odds that even if there's no fingerprints of West on those sachets, he'll still be held accountable for possession of that thing.
Every turn that we take just looks like everything is on dead-end.
"It's possible that there are possibilities we haven't yet considered. But we should always leave room for a doubt." he leaned closer to the table. "This might offend you but I swear that's not my purpose. How would you react if the truth is... West is really consuming those?"
I simply shooked my head as I heaved a sigh, "I have seen every side of West, from his quirky moods up to his disgusting ones. And I swear with assurance that not one of those attitude of his would simply trigger him to act on impulse."
"T-They're confidential. I don't know if there won't be a breach if I showed you something sensitive about the case here..." my orbs roamed around the groups of people sitting around us.
"That's fine if you don't. I understand." a faint smile is drawn from the corners of lips. "Still, I'm on your side. I believe in your brother as much as you do."
That caught me off-guard. I slid a large brown envelope on the table, containing documents that our lawyer handed to us earlier.
"I thought it's confidential?" tanong pa niya.
"I never said I won't let you read it, but at least do it later." sagot ko. Ibinalik naman niya ang envelope sa 'kin. "I'll check later."
"It's been two weeks after the screening test and tomorrow, mayroong confimatory test to see if the substance were really what we think it is." saad ko pa.
"How's West cracking?"
"Would I sound weird if I say I miss his weird ramblings?"
"No, not really." he chuckled as he fixed tbe bobby pins that I tucked in his loose hair strands earlier.
"Well, he's still sane. He's telling me to take care of myself and the others, and that I should visit Mommy more often albeit without him." I spun the fork on the pasta and chewed on it even if my jaw's aching from being tensed too much. "He's even asking if you're being sneaky."
