The Ones Who See The Dawn at North
"Knows how wounding the journey is on the winding road,
Looking for something or nothing that they sought.
The view of the summit as the sunbeam clears the haze,
Burns through the spectacle as it shines it's rays.
There are footprints ahead before we came,
But in racing our ways there's nothing to gain..."
I wrote that down on a piece of paper while the guy beside me is tuning his guitar.
"Thank you for giving us your time for a collaboration. You should join a band or be a musician since you're pretty good at writing." wika niya sa 'kin.
"I don't have an idea about being a lyricist or being a musician. I just write the way I wanted it to sound." nakatuon pa rin ang atensyon ko sa pagsusulat sa papel.
"Really. Hindi halata. You have the edge in wordplay since you're a freelance writer. Some musicians started out as poets, you know?"
"But not all poets needed to be musicians." tugon ko. "Some just wanted to have their voices be heard even if there's no rhythm."
"Yeah, yeah. You sound like some advocators nowadays. For example, that Ambassador Jamila of the DENR Department that even made her own segment on local news and television. If she keeps on talking about the same thing on media, people will get tired of her." the guy just kept on talking. His voice is the only one that I kept on hearing in the studio.
"She keeps on talking about the same thing because people refuses to listen." I answered and re-wrote the lyrics in a cleaner paper. Inabot ko ito sa kaniya.
"Ooh, the lyrics are pretty whack. If you have a girlfriend, she'll be so lucky to have someone serenading her with words like this."
"Thanks for the compliment." I reclined on my chair and savoured the soda that they served.
I haven't had much caffeine lately that's why I kept on getting drowsy.
Umalis ito sa tabi ko at lumapit sa lalaking nagseset-up sa synthesizers. "Have you decided on a beat yet?"
"Still working on it. Usually, inuuna na 'tin yung tune, but I guess we should try it the other way." napansin kong lumingon sa 'kin ang lalaking kasama niya.
Some of their band members are squambling in conceptualizing their planned music video. Ideas just crash onto each other and they end up arguing which concept is better.
Napahiga sa sahig ang drummer. "Hindi tayo makakaabot sa target date kung hindi natin paplanuhin ng ayos yung album production tsaka filming."
"Why can't we just sign under the other famous labels out there? Kung gano'n ang gagawin, mas kaunting trabaho ang aasikasuhin natin since may mga kasama na tayong staffs. Right, Jojo?"
"Bigger labels sometimes invoke inequality to artists. Don't you ever wonder why some artists leave their groups? The companies release official statements about supporting on the artist's future endeavors yet they don't reflect to the reason why the artist left in the first place." The guy named Jojo remarked.
"We don't know how labels work so we're in no position to talk. There are good labels out there."
"I'm entitled to my opinion. Bigger labels also equate to being silent about everything without providing proper explanation. For example, when scandals and rumors spark that might affect their artists. Even if people demand explanation, they won't give one unless it's a bigger threat that might reduce profit in their money-making schemes. Some of the statements are fabricated to bend the viewpoints of the people so that they will be favorized."
