Gon pov

I was swimming, crying, screaming. I didn't know if I would make it out alive. I just wanted to escape the monster chasing me.

As in monster, I meant a great white shark. It looked so scary. It's teeth jagged, it's eyes pitch black, and it's fin sticking up like a blade of a knife. It sliced through the water after me, and almost caught me.

But out of no where there was yelling coming from.. a man?

I turned around to see the shark now had a huge gash on its face. And it yelped before swimming away into the darkness of the deep. Who did that?

I swam up to the surface to see a small row boat. And sitting within it was the man who I believed just saved me... he had long white hair, eyes covered by a blue cap, a long sleeved white shirt, and black jeans. In his hand was a pretty long blade that I assumed he used to cut the shark. What surprised me even more was.. he was human.

He then looked over to where I still swam above the surface and I held my breathe. But he never came at me to hurt me, he just sighed.

"Hey kid, you should be more careful next time in these waters. Why are you even out here alone...?" He asked with a grunt.

I gulped at the sound of his voice and looked into his eyes that now slightly showed in the shade of his cap.

"O-oh I was looking f-for something... I lost my favorite shell and thought I left it here the other day when I was with my Aunt Mito..." I say shyly and he scoffed.

"Don't go risking your life for a damn shell.." he mumbled, causing me to tilt my head.

I was confused as to how he wasn't freaking out at seeing a literal mermaid. From the stories my Aunt told me, many would start screaming or try to catch us.

"W-wait why aren't you surprised that... I'm... Y'know.." and how can you understand my language?" I say without finishing my sentence due to my shyness. I also realized I had been speaking in my clicks the whole time

The man chuckled and there was a flash of blue light. I covered my eyes to prevent  from getting blinded. When I felt certain that the flash was over I opened my eyes to see the man now had taken off his shirt, and he had a black mermaid tail..

"Because I am one of you.." he said with a slight smirk and I gasped.

"Whoaaaa how did you do that?!!" I say with curiosity and excitement.

He then got into the water with me and went under to prevent from being seen.

"Well you see... we have powers I guess you could call them. But usually it's referred to as Pathifery. I'm not sure if your aunt taught you this, but you should really know since you'll need to learn it. It's a power that you can use to mainly heal, use transformation like I just did, or boosting In strength." The man explained and my eyes sparkled.

"That's so cool!!! I wanna learn it now!!" I cheered and zoomed around like a little torpedo.

The man slowed me down though and chuckled.

"Well I could teach you the basics here in the next few weeks if you want. We'd have to meet here everyday though, it's hard work." He said and I nodded my head despite the consequences.

"Ok!! I swear I'll come here everyday and give it my all!!" I said with my fist shooting up through the water to show my determination.

The mysterious man laughed and nodded.

"Alright fair enough.." He mumbled again.

I remembered then that I never got his name..

"Wait what's your name?" I asked and he turned to me.

"Oh, I'm Kite. You?" He asked and sat upon a rock at the bottom of the shallow waters we were in.

It wasn't shallow to the point where someone could in it. But it was around eight feet. So not too deep at all.

"I'm Gon! Gon Freecss! Nice to meet you Kite!" I said with lots of happiness.

Kite seemed to become intrigued by my last name though.

"Freecss you say hm? What a coincidence... a very close friend of mine is in the Freecss family. He told me he had a wife but.. never told me he had a son. A mermaid son in particular. He's human." Kite said and I became super excited.

"Wait you know my dad?!!! Whoa!! What's he like?!" I asked frantically.

"Yes it seems I know your dad. And he's a very.. interesting man. He's pretty introverted, shy, and very stubborn. He's also very smart and intelligent I'll have to say. He knows a lot about quite a few things." Kite explained to me and I was so intrigued by all of it.

"He does sound interesting!!! Does he know that you're a mermaid?" I asked another question yet again.

"Man you ask a lot of questions... but no he doesn't. I don't plan on telling him either. It would only endanger him with the whole mermaid world thats completely different from the human world." He said with a shrug.

"Oh ok... well you should tell him someday!! Maybe he'll love it!!" I say to try and reassure him.

"Thanks kid, maybe he will who knows."kite responded before swimming back up to the surface.

He got his human legs back and his black tail changed back to his black jeans. I followed him to the surface and watched him get the motor running on the small row boat.

"Well I better get going Gon, I'll be back here tomorrow at the same time. Don't be late or I'll make your training extra difficult." He said with a smirk and I nodded.

"Ok I'll come on time I promise!! Bye bye!!" I waved to him and watched his boat zoom off back to the shore.

Wow I just met someone who knows my dad!!! That's so cool!! Maybe one day I could find him and show him Kite's mermaid form!!

Two worlds... but Kite manages to be apart of both? How does he do it so well?
