Leorio pov

I sighed and looked outside the window of my apartment. It's been two hours since Gon left, and it was already getting dark out. I knew he wouldn't be back for a while... but that would impact Killua more than anyone. He's been in his room ever since we got back. Which of course sparks quite a bit of worry on the inside.

So with that in mind, I stood up and walked over to his bedroom door. I inhaled calmly before knocking on the wood and waited for a response.

"Who is it..?" Killua's now raspy voice called out, and I frowned.

"It's me Leorio... can I come in?" I asked and I heard him say yes.

So I opened the door slowly to see him a mess... he was sprawled out on his bed with his shirt thrown aside, and tears streamed down his face. The bags under his eyes were a unhealthy purple, which suggested he had been crying for a while.

After taking in the surroundings, I walked over and sat on the foot of his bed.

"Killua... you need to move on alright? Gon will be back quicker than you'll know. He's probably just fine, knowing that Biskey has a high security and safety radar." I say to him. And I watched as he slowly sat up beside me.

He shivered and a few more tear drops escaped his eyes.

"N-no... Gon told us that this war will be ever more gruesome than their historic Red Waters battle. So I don't think many will make it out. Especially since they're up against some weird creatures who came from the depths of hell." Killua scowled. I could practically feel the anger coming off of him.

"Killua... please stay calm. Gon is a strong boy, he will know how to protect himself." I tried to reassure him, but that seemed to only make it worse.

"Yes he's strong! But those creatures are stronger!! I'm sorry Leorio, but Gon means more to me than my own life! I can't let him get hurt! Not again! After the situation with Illumi, I refuse to let anymore harm get to him!" Killua screamed suddenly and stood up.

I gulped and stayed seated on his bed. I had to stay calm right now... if I freaked out too it would only convince Killua more to go out and find him. Trust me, I want to go find Gon too. But I believe that would put him in more danger. We couldn't accidentally lead Pitou and the others to their base...

"Hey... I get how you feel. But please understand that going out there to find him would put him in more danger. We could be the very people to accidentally lead Pitou and the other monsters to him. We can't take risks like that.. I want to protect Gon too, just like you do. But I know that I can't do much more than wait. Interfering could cause major turns that we don't want to happen." I explained to him why he shouldn't go out there. Killua never mentioned that he wanted to, but it was clear he will. So I have to stop him ahead of time.

Killua froze at my words, and he seemed to be understanding now. He slowly took a deep breathe and looked down at the floor.

"You're right but.... Leorio we can't lose him!!! We can't!!!" Killua sobbed out. Which had me surprised.

"I know we can't lose him, but we can only watch at this point. We aren't equipped or strong enough to fight alongside him. What we can do to help maybe, is just keep anyone from interfering." I say to him as I took my glasses off.

Killua almost seemed to choke on his tears, and he looked up at me. His wide tearful eyes broke my heart... he cares about Gon so much. And Gon cares about him...

"L-Leorio.... I never g-got to..."

He didn't get to finish as he seemed to be breaking down on the inside. He buried his face into his hands then and sniffed.

"You never got to what?" I say gently to him. I'm not quite sure what he meant...

Killua took a deep breathe. Once he finished regaining himself, he looked back up at me.

"I n-never got to... ask h-him out on a d-date..." Killua stuttered out, which made me smile warmly.

"Killua that's really sweet... I know Gon would have said yes in a heart beat. How about you ask him when he gets back hm?" I say and hugged Killua to help him stay calm again.

Killua sniffed back his tears and nodded.

"Y-ya, I could do that.." he whispered with sadness still in his words.

I hoped with all of my being... that Gon would survive. I want to see him again... we have to see him again.

...
Gon pov

It's been yet again quite a while since me and Biskey arrived, so I was helping out with distributing dinner out to everyone. Luckily these caverns had lots of small caves that were now being used as rooms to house everyone. I shared a room actually with a few kids. They were younger than me, but they were very sweet.

Dinner tonight was just some raw tuna with a side of warmed up clams. It was actually really good but... tasting it reminded me having dinner with Leorio and Killua. Leorio always made the best dinners... he put lots of love into every meal, which made it all the better. I knew though that I would hopefully get to taste his cooking again. I'd need to survive this war. Even if it's just barely.

"Hey Gon, you thinking about something or what? You haven't touched your clams much."

My thoughts faded away at the sound of a voice, causing me to turn. I saw Knuckle had sat next to me now, and he had some worry in his eyes.

"O-oh... it's nothing really. I just... I really miss my human friends. They took such good care of me and I love them so much. I have to survive this war. If it isn't for me, then it's for them." I said sadly.

Knuckle frowned at my words and then set aside his meal.

"Hey you'll be back with them before you know it! Just fight hard, and believe! That's what got so many through battles like this." Knuckle said to me while looking around at passing mermaids.

"That's a good point Knuckle, thank you. But... what about the Red Waters War? How did anyone even survive that?" I asked, not only out of curiosity but also out of deep thought.

The man sighed then at my question. Which I knew I was in for a long tale.

"Well you see Gon, only a hundred out of thousands survived that war. Those who did survive, made it either by luck... or power. The ones with luck, barely made it out due to quick health treatment. While those with power, fought with everything they had. Even the dead did the same. In battle, it just depends on where you stand at the right time. A Bullet could hit you from any angle. But which angle is the question. Just think, plan, and observe. War is a complicated thing. If you look deep enough into it though, it's just a few beings wanting to fight for what they believe in." Knuckle explained the very long yet interesting story. I never expected that many to survive that battle... to be honest, I thought nobody had made it out. I guess the world is full of surprises isn't it?

I need to fight with everything I've got
