Chapter 13

CHAPTER 13

Mrs. Hong knocked on Senior Do's bedroom door and waited.

"Come in." said the voice inside.

"Sir Edward, your son called to say he's not coming home tonight. Kyungsoo said he got some documents to finish, he will be at his pad when you need him." the housekeeper announced.

Senior Do has always been addressed by his English name since their business has grown immensely which he spent mostly working in the USA or Europe.

"Ok, Mrs. Hong. Thank you and good night." he smiled at his loyal housekeeper whom he treated like his family.

As Mrs. Hong closed the door gently, Senior Do sighed heavily. He is happy that his son has followed his lead in taking over the business well but he is not contented for his future. Kyungsoo is already in his ripe age of marrying yet it looks like he does not have the intention in getting there soon.

How can his son marry if he doesn't even go out to date any women? He does not want to be the kind of father choosing and imposing any single woman available for his son. He would like him to have the same luck of finding a girl whom he will love and be forever with. Just like him. His gaze then fell on the lovely pictures of his late wife at the corner bureau.

Although, his wife died early when Kyungsoo was still in university, he did not try to find another woman to replace her. He loved his wife so much that he knows no woman can compare to her. She was enough for him and he is happy. Besides, he was busy with the corporation at that time.

Kyungsoo had past girlfriends or flings before but his son never once introduced them to him nor brought them home. He will read some news about him dating someone once in a while but Kyungsoo couldn't care less when confronted. He's always dropping him hints that he'd like him to settle down but he thinks Kyungsoo consider them as jokes.

He knew that his son is not some fickle-minded bimbo yet he presumed the difficulty his son is having in finding a decent woman to marry. He wants his son's future wife to love him purely with all her heart not because of what he can offer, with his money and all. Probably, this is a dilemma for Kyungsoo. He handed him a huge responsibility and knowing his son, he will not let him down.

There were lot of offers from his friends and business circles but he knew these people only want connections. He does not want to impose on Kyungsoo because he knew him so well. Kyungsoo wanted the same love Senior Do had with his mother. This is what his son kept telling him whenever he tries to set him up. That is why he directed Kyungsoo's bestfriends to do his biddings, unfortunately no luck till now.

Standing up, Senior Do walked to the veranda overlooking at the beautiful, landscaped garden.

The night is clear with the glowing moon and countless stars looking down upon him.

He could still hear what his doctor told him two months ago during his annual check-up. He smiled bitterly, suddenly feeling his life like a ticking time bomb. His exterior manifested a strong facade, yet his heart is the problem.

Classic mitral valve prolapse. He inhaled deeply.

He doesn't want his son to worry about him so he kept it a secret. He even asked his consultants to not disclose his condition to anybody. Though they are inciting him to have the surgery immediately since it is very treatable, he declined and said it's not yet the right time.

Besides, he is too much concern of his son than his health. Once he knew Kyungsoo is married he will proceed with the treatment. For now, he just have to be careful and his pills will suffice in addition to regular visit to his doctors, which he needs to keep hidden as well.

Edward knew it might take a lifetime until Kyungsoo can find a wife so he devised a plan. He cannot predict when his illness will strike but just wished his son will soon find a nice lady who will truly love and accept the huge responsibility bestowed on Kyungsoo. Not to mention, a woman who can extend Do's lineage he has been craving for. Then he can die peacefully if that is what God decided to. At least, he will be joining his late wife which he misses every now and then.

He entrusted all of his wishes to his long-timed friend, Atty. Kim Jongro, who is also their corporate's head counsel. Edward is confident that Jongro will know what to do when the right time comes.

Stifling a yawn, feeling exhausted all of a sudden, he turned in his bed and retired for the night after praying for Kyungsoo.
