Chapter 30

CHAPTER 30

Eunmi was awoken by a commotion from the living room. She thought she was just dreaming, until she saw her pregnancy record book on her bedside table. She took it and stared at her unborn baby's picture scan kept inside.

"Grow up big, everything will be alright." she whispered whilst patting her flat tummy. She then put the scan back and decided to get up from bed to see what is happening outside.

"Eunmi-ah!" Hemi screamed as she saw her walking towards them, running to hug her bestfriend.

Eunmi was surprised to see her and Jongin back home so quickly. Although she already anticipated this from her bestfriend, she cannot still believe Hemi just ditched her honeymoon to be with her. She suddenly felt embarrassed of Jongin.

"Why were you back so suddenly? It hasn't been a day from your honeymoon, has it?" she incredulously asked Hemi.

"Bahamas' weather annoyed me." Hemi said wrinkling her nose. "Most importantly, I won't be able to sit there twiddling my thumbs knowing about your condition."

Eunmi hissed, then turning to Jongin she apologetically said, "Sorry Jongin, I guess I've ruined your honeymoon."

"It's a mutual decision, Eunmi-ah. I've known about Uncle Edward's condition as well. Kyungsoo will be needing an extra hand."

"Thank you." was the only thing she can say.

How can she forget about Kyungsoo if the people around her will always remind her of him.

"No worries. Besides, there's no place like home so why not spend our honeymoon here."

"That's what I love about you, babe, so understanding!" Hemi said pinching Jongin's cheek whilst kissing him.

"Guess what, Eunmi-ah?" Sonbi chimed in leaning on Yeol who was seated on the single-seater couch. "They will stay here for a while till the renovations of their condominium is finished."

Eunmi knew that they were just doing it for her sake, to keep her from getting depressed, keeping an eye on her. But still, she is very grateful for having wonderful, understanding friends.

Although seeing her bestfriends with their partners was a little too disheartening on her part. What about her? Single yet pregnant by an unknown man? She pushed the thought at the back of her mind and smiled at them.

"That's nice to hear. The more, the merrier." she said hiding her sadness.

"Ok, gentlemen. If you could give us some privacy, please." announced Hemi.

Both Jongin and Yeol immediately stood up. Eunmi sensed that this was premeditated.

"We'll see you ladies at dinner tonight." Yeol said.

"Aren't you tired from your flight back, Jongin?" asked Eunmi.

"Not yet. I have to check up on Uncle Edward and speak with Kyungsoo at the hospital anyways." answered Jongin.

"I'm coming too." said Yeol.

She cannot do anything but nod after them seeing her bestfriends relaxed about it.

Sonbi started speaking once the men were out.

"Hemi and I talked when you were still at the hospital and we want to know how you fell pregnant. We believed you when you said that you knew nothing about it but somehow there must be a clue that could help you remember how it happened. It is too absurd that you just suddenly fell pregnant like that. You are not Mama Mary to have an immaculate conception!" Sonbi tried to joke to which both smiled.

Sonbi continued, "If you were raped or sexually assaulted without knowing it, we need to know therefore we can bring you to justice. Anyway, whatever you decide we will be right behind you. What can you say?"

Eunmi fell silent once she heard Sonbi's words.

Hemi on the other held her hands. "Do you remember anything unusual that had happened to you a month ago?"

Her bestfriends were not accusing her, even she would like to know. Despite how many times she thought about it however hard she thinks, nothing out of the ordinary comes out. Eunmi shook her head.

"I've tried my best thinking about it last night but no matter how hard I try, I can't think how, when or who?" Eunmi dejectedly said.

"Let us do this way. Try to retrace what you did last month. Remember all the things that you did." it was Sonbi.

"Well, I'm too busy with some accounts that I kept going with my team for business trips, mostly with Boss Tang."

"Nothing unusual happened during those trips?" Hemi asked.

Eunmi closed her eyes and thought hard again for several minutes then shook her head. "Nothing."

"What else did you do?" Sonbi asked again.

"I did not attend any party apart from Hemi's bridal shower last month, it's just pure office work as far as I can remember." Recollecting how drunk she got and the splitting headache she had the morning she woke up.

"Yeah, right! You did not even wake me up before you left for the office that day." Hemi said crossing her arm and shaking her head accusing her workaholic bestfriend.

Eunmi looked suddenly at Hemi, shocked at her statement. "What did you just say?" she asked almost a whisper.

"I said you being a workaholic, ditching your drunk bestfriend!" said Hemi feigning hurt.

She became silent for some time before uttering. "I woke up without you at my side that day. I thought you were already up and busy moving your presents to your car. There was even a breakfast trolley when I woke up." confusion all written on Eunmi's face.

Both her bestfriends looked at each other. Now, they were making progress. Excitedly, they prodded Eunmi for more information.

"Eunmi, how could you forget?! I will not wake up in the morning unless someone did! Have you also forgotten I don't wake up early, especially when drunk? It was Sonbi who woke me up that day. What else can you remember?" encouraged Hemi.

Eunmi is really thinking hard now. "I was suffering from a terrible headache at that time. How could I remember?" she defended herself. "As far as I can remember, I just stayed for 15 minutes since I woke up then immediately left for the office because they kept calling me on my phone. I even wrote you a note, didn't you see it?"

"As I have said, when Sonbi woke me up, we realised you are not in the bed. There was no note. And we did not move any presents until after we had our breakfast in the cafe down the hotel's lobby. Did you order any room service for us by chance, Sonbi? Maybe Yeolie did?" Hemi asked looking at Sonbi, who shook her head.

Sonbi gasped, "Can't it be you slept at the wrong room?"

Hemi looked wonderingly at Eunmi. "Perhaps, she did." was the only conclusion she made.

This time Eunmi tried harder racking her mind up to her subconcious if it is even possible, to remember everything that happened at that time. The last thing she exactly recalled was removing her clothes before crawling in bed once inside the room, that's all. Then when she woke up, she was completely naked, her body aching, and her head was splitting. She even remembered having a dream...

'Could that be real? That the dream she had was actually the reality?'

Does that mean she was raped?

Eunmi started huffing, worrying the other two.

"What's wrong, Eunmi?" Sonbi anxiously asked.

"I think I was raped." Eunmi said as tears started falling from her eyes.
