Chapter 27

CHAPTER 27

Kyungsoo was worried sick as he restlessly paced back and forth in front of the Operating Rooms entrance. It has been three hours already since his father entered. Baekhyun was sitting by the benches next to Atty. Kim.

Upon hearing from their housekeeper that his father had collapsed, Kyungsoo was completely stunned. He ordered his father to be immediately rushed to the same hospital where Eunmi was also admitted.

What great timing!

Kyungsoo waited for the ambulance to arrive by the emergency department. He does not know what to do but instead called his father's bestfriend immediately, Atty. Kim, Jongin's father, to inform the situation whilst waiting.

It made his heart sank upon seeing his unconscious dad in a gurney hooked to an oxygen cylinder and a monitoring machine as the paramedics removed him from the ambulance and quickly wheeled him to the operating room.

He just had spoken with him in the morning during breakfast telling him about his impending date with Eunmi. His father was so happy asking him to not date any longer but instead to ask Eunmi to marry him right away. He laughed about it but did not say further on. He remembered his father was then full of energy that morning, and he cannot believe the sight of him now, looking lifeless.

Luckily, Baekhyun arrived soon after.

As much as he wants to go inside, the surgeons and Baekhyun stopped him from doing so. He was told that his father needed an emergency open heart surgery. Looking forlorn, Kyungsoo cannot do much but prayed for his father to be alright. He has so much to tell him, especially the good news that he will be a grandfather soon as he had wished.

Baekhyun stood up and walked to Kyungsoo, "Kyungsoo-ah, stop pacing back and forth and sit down with us."

Kyungsoo looked sadly at Baekhyun and nodded.

"Uncle Edward is going to be fine. Those surgeons are his consultants and knew him for some years now, I heard from Uncle Jongro." Baekhyun said whilst patting his back.

"I did not even know my father has a heart condition. Why did he keep that from me?" asked Kyungsoo without even looking at him.

"He has his reasons." It was Atty. Kim.

"What do you mean, Uncle?" asked Kyungsoo, looking at Atty. Kim sharply.

"I know this is going to happen. We need to talk tomorrow." Atty. Kim said then continued as Kyungsoo was about to say something, "Let's wait for your father to come out of the surgery first."

Kyungsoo fell silent and did not insist anymore.

They stayed another hour or so sitting at the benches without talking.

Baekhyun cannot contain the atmosphere anymore and said, "Come on, let's get something to drink. It will take some time before Uncle Edward comes out of the operating room. Uncle Jongro, shall we get you some coffee as well?" he offered.

Atty. Kim just nodded.

Baekhyun has to goad Kyungsoo up before he managed to stand up. They walked all the way to the cafeteria as Baekhyun knew Kyungsoo likes to walk whenever something is troubling him.
