Chapter 26

CHAPTER 26

The doctor's words kept ringing in Kyungsoo's mind. 'Eunmi is pregnant?' His face was contorted with confusion, not hearing what Eunmi and the doctor was talking about. Then the realization dawned on him.

'Eunmi is pregnant!'

'Wow! I'm going to be a father!' he thought as a big grin broke in his mouth, still oblivious of his surroundings.

Then like a lightning strike, his grin changed into worry. 'Eunmi doesn't know I'm the father of her baby. She does not even have a clue about what happened with us that night. What to do?'

He fell into a deep thought that he never realized he was gripping Eunmi's hand so tight. Not until she complained about it.

"Ouch! Do Kyungsoo, you're gripping my hand so hard."

"Sorry!" Kyungsoo immediately released her hand.

To Eunmi, it looked like Kyungsoo just touched a hot coal.

As much as she would like to dwell on Kyungsoo's reaction, the doctor's news is much more a pressing matter.

Eunmi was so shocked with what the doctor have said that it did not sink in. How can she be pregnant? How COULD she be pregnant?

"How?" she asked the doctor.

The doctor smiled, "I don't think I have to discuss to you both how a baby is made. How are you feeling these past few days?"

The question stopped Eunmi. Racking her brains, she did not have any symptoms except vomiting this entire morning. She thought it was food poisoning.

"I was nauseated and retching this morning... But that's all! I thought I am suffering from food poisoning." she's still in denial.

"Didn't you feel always tired or sleeping all the time? Food cravings?" the doctor asked.

But she thought it was due to work, her being tired all the time resulting to oversleeping. She cannot remember any food cravings but only sudden dislike of her favourite dessert instead, which was odd. But when did it start?

And her period, she never missed a period in her life! Which is supposed to come... 'three days delayed.' She concluded whilst mentally counting the days since she last had it. But it can't be?

Seeing the look in her face, the doctor told her, "I'm recommending you to Dr. Chang, one of our leading obstetrician-gynecologist in this hospital for further test. She will also be the one to discharge you. If you do not have any questions, I'll be going now. Mr. Do, congratulations again! Please take good care of-" the doctor was addressing Kyungsoo now.

"He is not my husband!" interjected Eunmi. She did not see Kyungsoo's face going dark.

That stopped the doctor, "Oh, my apologies. In that case take care, Ms. Cha." with that and he left the room whilst Sonbi came in followed by the hurried Jongdae.

"Eunmi, we're here. How are you feeling? What did the doctor say? Was it really food poisoning?" Sonbi asked, firing too many questions at once.

Jongdae nodded at Kyungsoo before going near Eunmi's bed. "Eunmi-ah, how are you?"

Eunmi was still in her confused, shocked state staring at nothingness that she did not realise her friends' arrival. Not until Sonbi held her hand and called her name again did she only look at both.

Eunmi cannot help but cry hugging Sonbi. "The doctor said I am pregnant. How can it be?"

Both were completely surprised upon hearing her.

Jongdae recovered first. "Come again?" he might have heard her wrong.

"I am one-month pregnant." repeated the tear-stained Eunmi.

"How could that had happened?" It was Sonbi this time.

Eunmi can only weep. Sonbi was still stunned but continued stroking Eunmi's head whilst still hugging her. "Hush now, pumpkin."

Jongdae just made a fist, he does not know how to react with the news.

Kyungsoo just stayed on his spot. As much as he liked to be the one consoling Eunmi, how can he? He wanted for Eunmi to cry on his shoulder, not on Sonbi for he was the one that caused her pregnancy. But how can he tell them that without being despised?

Kyungsoo knew pregnancy is difficult and precarious especially on the first trimester. He had many pregnant employees who continued on working because of their loyalty to the company despite suffering from their symptoms, he advocated for them all and ensured proper risk assessments are made to make sure their safety and comfort whilst at work. He can imagine Eunmi suffering early morning sickness and he wanted to be there, to assist her all through her sufferings.

Right now, he does not want to add more complications to Eunmi's bewildered state at the moment. He knew it will be more stressful for her and it might cause harm to their baby if he did tell them about his secret.

Kyungsoo's heart and mind are in predicament. He is overjoyed knowing that he is going to be a father soon although he is sensing a huge problem once it is revealed that he is the father. No one knows except him. His bestfriends may deduced but what about the others? Will they not think of him as a rapist, taking advantage of a drunk woman? His head is in turmoil that he did not realize his phone was ringing.

"Prez, your phone is ringing." Jongdae said to him.

"Huh?" then he heard his ringtone. Fumbling on his phone, he answered it.

"Hello." his brows that was furrowed in deep thought suddenly rose. "What?! I'll be right there, hang on!" his face completely darkened, jaw clenching.

"I have to go, there is an emergency." he hurriedly said to everybody. "Jongdae, please contact Baekhyun and tell him to call at the mansion."

"Ok, Prez."

Looking at Eunmi's teary face etched with wonder at his sudden hurriedness, he stopped, his jaw clenched and said, "I'll come and visit you again ok." then left immediately with his phone on his ear.

As much as he wanted to stay with her, his father needs him right now. He will come back to her and straighten everything soon.

Seeing his retreating back, Eunmi wailed. "He's never coming back."
