The Pandemic

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. - Alexander Pope

According to an article published in Hindustan Times, India has a literacy rate of about 77.7%. That's definitely a big number. But, I wonder if we are really literates when we cannot even follow guidelines laid down by the Government in simple, clear words.

Just how difficult is it to follow these guidelines? I do not deny that wearing a mask for hours together when you are at school/work is difficult, but we need to understand that we have no other choice. We brought this onto ourselves. The virus is here to stay at least for a few more years and we need to learn to adapt to this new lifestyle to stay safe and healthy.

Just look at the rising number of cases in India, do you really think that it is safe for you to go around without a mask? At least think about the people who are close to you! Trust me when I say that once you contract Covid, it is not just about your safety, it is also about the safety of the people close to you. Are you really willing to take that blame on you when you find out that a close one contracted Covid because of your irresponsible behaviour? If God forbid, you lose them, will you ever get rid of the guilt? Will you?

I know I might be sounding rude here, but I am not sorry about it. Because of our careless, irresponsible behaviour, the cases are rising, and I won't really be surprised if we cross the threshold of 2 lakh Covid cases in a day.

Tough times call for tough measures. We will have to take precautionary measures and stay safe for a few more months at least. I'm sure none of us here wants to face this pandemic for a lifetime. All we need to do is follow the guidelines. And, if you are not aware of the common guidelines then read on further:

Let's not be the people who argue with the frontline workers when they are out there fighting for us. Let's not go on to become a burden. Let's not add on the cases tally. Let's not be Covidiots!

I understand it is difficult. We are all physically, emotionally and mentally drained. But, nothing lasts forever. This shall pass too. But, we are the ones who can decide for long it can trouble us. A few months of trouble is worth the rest of the free years, don't you think?

Be a responsible human and an abiding citizen. Be proactive and take steps to spread awareness about the need to follow protocols and guidelines.

Change begins from within. Ensure that you follow the guidelines religiously and make sure your immediate circle of family and friends follows the guidelines to the word. If Covid can spread in such huge numbers, awareness too can spread in larger numbers.

Stay safe. Be healthy. Spread awareness, not a virus!
