♠️Everest's Mystery♠️

Mount Everest. How many times have we read that name? A million times I suppose. It is the tallest Mountain on Earth with a starking height of 8,848 m or 29,035 feet. Everest is known for its height and the amount of tourists who go to climb this mountain.

The first ever Attempt to reach Mount Everest was in 1922 by Charles and Harold crew from the British. Their Crew contained many soldiers and one of the infamous one was George Mallory. Ever heard of the name? If you forgot, let me brush this fact over with you guys.

George Mallory was a british soldier and Mountaineer who attempted to climb Everest 3 times in his life. George Mallory went on an Expedition with Charles and his crew in 1922 but they failed due to lack of oxygen. The Second time he tried to climb with other crew members, an Avalanche occurred, which resulted in 7 deaths.

The third time, is as always, said to be a charm but with Mallory, that came out false. This time, he took another fellow Soldier Andrew “Sandy” Irvine with him, he was an engineer as well. He created an oxygen tank that could help Mountaineers survive in the Death zone.

The Death zone is above 8000 ft. Our body needs oxygen to do any work, and above 8000 ft, there is a slight chance to find oxygen in such a cold temperature. So, in order to survive there, you would need an oxygen tank and Irvine’s Innovation of a modified Oxygen tank easy to carry around, made it possible.

Mallory believed that with Irvine, there was a chance that they could reach the Summit or the peak of Everest.

So, They started climbing, they had reached the first step, when they sent a letter down to the base camp.

Using a telescope, Noel Odell, had spotted 2 black dots claiming it was Mallory and Irvine 500ft away from the summit, which means they crossed the second step as well but before he could see them reach the summit, then a thick blanket of snow covered the death zone and then Mallory and Irvine were never to be found.

75 Years later, in 1999, Conard Anker, who was part of the Mallory Irvine Research Expedition, found George Leigh Mallory 300ft below Irvine’s axe found in 1933.

Mallory’s body was very well preserved due to the harsh cold climate and they could not find the photo of his wife, which he vowed to bury at the summit of Mount Everest. That speculated that they had actually reached the summit but nothing could be confirmed because Irvine had the camera which had the proof whether or not they reached the summit.

Later, in 2010 or so, some Mountaineers speculated that he had found Irvine’s body in NorthEastern Ridge. After a lot of Expeditions and a lot of research, Irvine’s body is yet to be found. The name of the basin where Mallory was found was renamed the Mallory basin.

Some researchers say that Irvine might have slipped along with Mallory and because Mallory was a trained Mountaineer, he led on and prevented from slipping further while Irvine might have lost his grip and slipped further to be sediment in the Glaciers.

They also say Irvine’s body may not resurface for the next 1000 years in this case. The rest of the researchers still believe that Irvine’s body is out there and that we are all searching at the wrong spot. Which group are you with?
