♠️ D is for Depression ♠️

Do you know 56 million Indians suffer from depression? Do you know that 36.6 percent of suicides globally occur in India? It's harsh reality but according to numbers the likelihood of depression in India will increase rapidly in the next five to seven years.
Problems related with mental health are considered a taboo in India. A person who deals with depression or anxiety is considered abnormal by others. Not only that's but people who dare to fight for their lives are neglected by the people around them.
Before saying anything else I want to say that DEPRESSION IS NOT A JOKE, PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.
You cannot be depressed for an hour or a day. It's always gnawing inside you, killing you each second.
Close your eyes and tell me what you see? Black. Pitch Black that's what you see, right? That's what a depressed person sees with eyes wide open—a world without color. A world pitch black without happiness.
Everything will be fine. You will be fine. Everything will change with time. These few lines are repeated time and again to the person dealing with depression. I wish it was that easy, but sadly even time can not defeat this mental illness.
Family support and medical help with therapy can help to deal with depression, but most of the time family isn't aware, or tends to ignore that a loved one is depressed. You need to be alert and never ignore the slightest doubt. If you really feel that someone is depressed then, talk to them and show your concern.
Instead of telling them everything will be okay with time, tell me that their life matters. Tell them their absence affects you. Tell them they are strong and their life is worth fighting.
Studies prove that depression gives rise to suicidal thoughts and a person is more likely to die from suicide if they had a history of depression. That's shocking and heartbreaking at the same time, isn't it.
We need to raise awareness and educate people on the subject of depression especially in the rural areas of our country. It's not a new topic in the urban areas and cities and many Indian celebrities including Deepika Padukone talked about their struggle with depression.
Life is tough. Life is complicated. Sometimes life is full of problems, but it also has a beautiful side. It's alright to cry to let your emotions out and it's alright to be weak and vulnerable. It's alright to not be okay. It's alright to feel hopeless for a while.
Depression is a mental illness and anybody can recover from it. We cannot understand how it feels to be depressed until we've been through that phase so, stop judging others. Many people lose their husbands, sons, daughters, wives, and parents due to depression.
My heart aches whenever I see the rapid increase in depression and suicide rate in our country.
I wonder how it feels when you bury all sorrows, problems, and troubles inside your heart. Personally, I can't sit alone in a room. Instead, I love to have a random senseless chat with my family and friends.
Isn't it weird how our own mind gets against us and makes us think we're worthless and living doesn't matter. Our own mind tells us to isolate ourselves from others and trap ourselves in the cage of endless thoughts.
I want to say just one thing: You can defeat DEPRESSION. It's not STRONGER THAN YOU. You are STRONGER THAN IT.
Never let this illness take away your spirit and fight every hour, every minute, every second. Everybody needs help once in a while, so don't be scared to ask for help.
Medical help can make a huge difference and support from family and loved ones is the strength that will help in this fight.
There will be darker days. There will be brighter days. But at the end you'll find your light that will help you navigate this world.Sensitive topics like Depression should not be taken lightly.
We still have time to spread awareness and change our attitude towards depressed people. Things will be far easier if we treat depression like a normal illness and encourage others to seek medical advice. Also, anybody can be affected by depression and it doesn't matter if you are a teenager or an elderly citizen.
We need to change. If we don't then, in the upcoming years we will teach toddlers that A is for Apple and D is for Depression.
If you have dealt and fought depression then you are a hero and I'm proud of you. Come out and share your story with the world so you may inspire someone.
Remember, a fractured bone needs a doctor's attention and so does the invisible battle of depression.
Love and hugs
