Rajasthan is popular for its rich cultural heritage. The forts and abandoned towns have seen a lot of unspeakable horrors. It’s no surprise that some of these places had been marked as prohibited. People have experienced things around these forts and towns that have changed them into horrifying places.

•In the town of Jaisalmer, Kuldhara or ‘The Land of Visitant’ is a deserted village which is said to be haunted. In the 19th century, there used to be a flourishing village. It has a story of an immoral minister who wanted to marry the chief’s daughter without her consent. When the girl and her family denied, the minister retaliated by threatening to ruin their lives. After much thinking, it is said, that the villagers left the land in dead of the night.

The villagers put a curse on the land and the minister that no one can ever live peacefully in this town.

The Paranormal Society of Delhi inspected this place to indeed find some activities that are borderline scary. There were footprints found on the mud, shadows passing over the rubbles, sounds of the dead villagers and even scratches on cars.

India Archaeological Society had now taken this area to rebuild. But people are still not allowed to go there at night!

Rana Kumbha Palace – Deadly Chambers

In the huge Chittorgarh Fort, Rana Kumbha Palace is infamous for its secret passages and deadly chambers. This spot is also one of the scariest places in Rajasthan. People have noticed unnatural occurring and even heard women crying for help. The legend behind this spooky palace is when Allaudin Khilji (Sultan of Delhi) invaded the fort, Rani Padmini with 700 of her followers gave their lives by ‘Jauhar’.

Another eerie incident that took place was the most horrifying. A group of friends camped in the palace to find proof for all the paranormal happenings. Late at night, they hear the screaming of a woman for help from one of the passages. Terrified, they looked for the source and when they turned around, they found a woman in royal attire with half of her face burnt.

She disappeared in a few seconds. This place, too, is closed for visitors from evening onwards.

Bhangarh Fort – Princess’ Ghost

This fort needs no introduction. One of the most haunted places to ever exist in Rajasthan. It falls between the Alwar-Jaipur road. Built for King Madho Singh by his father in the 16th century, this fort stands amidst a dense forest. Several legends have attested to the bizarre and unusual things that take place here.

The most prominent of the tales is the one revolving around Princess Ratnavati. It is said that a tantric fell in love with her beauty and tried to trick her into falling in love with him by enchanting the oil she was using. Princess found out about it and threw away the cosmetic which then triggered a boulder to crush the magician. In his last breaths, he cursed the place that it will forever be in ruins and will never prosper. People have also felt the eerie sensation of someone watching them.
Locals have reported that they have heard a female voice screaming, the sound of footsteps, strange light and music from the fort. Most of the people who had dared to stay after sundown went missing or were not in the state to speak coherently.

Before sunrise and after sunset, this place is prohibited to everyone, including the officials.

Sudhabay – Mass Exorcism

Ever wanted to experience exorcism? Visit Sudhabay, a town near Pushkar, where every year a ‘Ghost Fair’ takes place once. People who are said to be possessed by evil spirits are treated here. People of this town also fear being possessed. There’s a well that is believed to have powers to cleanse your mind soul. Taking a dip in this well relieve you of all the negative energy.

The process of exorcism is not for the weak heart. Although not a ghost town, the Ghost Fair will give you chills you have never experienced. It’s definitely not for everyone.
