We are living in a world where the society tells us to judge the evolution of a country by its economic condition and victory of a handful of individuals. Such an administration promises a better future for everyone but then helps only a few to stay in power, and that too unlawfully, and ignores the needs of those who are left behind.

India was a country with very strong caste based hierarchical system where the upper castes would enjoy the benefits and the lower castes were looked down upon.

The backward classes are the scheduled castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and the Other Backward Classes (OBC)

After independence, the Constitution of India had introduced Article 46 to promote the interests of the Backward castes and to protect them from social injustice.

The 103rd amendment of the Indian Constitution ensures 10% reservations for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of an upper caste who do not come under SC, ST, and OBC will now be able to enjoy the reservations in government jobs.

There are some exclusions too but there are no exclusions for SC/ST people.

For OBC's people in the following categories are not entitled to take advantage of the reservation system:

Children of officials in high office as per the Constitution.

Children of civil servants in high positions.

Children of armed force officers of high rank.

Children of professionals and those engaged in trade and industry.

Children of property owners.

Children of people with annual income exceeding ₹8,00,000 (regarded as the "creamy layer")

But in all this, what about the middle classes? Those who are classified as the 'Open' castes?

During admissions in colleges, SC/ST category students are preferred above the Open castes; the percentage they scored is not taken into consideration until and unless the seats for SC/ST are filled.

For example, if an Open caste student gets 90% and a SC/ST student gets 67%, the SC/ST is preferred. Why? Because of the reservation system, also known as QOTA.

But, isn't it unfair?

What I believe is that equality needs to be practiced. Everyone is getting advanced, why shouldn't we? The rich people of SC/ST are getting benefited but the middle classes of Open castes aren't.
