♠LEADERSHIP IN GENERATION Z♠
Written by- Abigail_gif

The insight about leadership and a team has always been evolving through times. From monarchs to dictators to democrats, we have reached the era of leaders. Long gone are the times when authority meant power, when intimidation meant influence and individual obsession meant goals.

A leader is no more defined as a powerful person who leads. A leader was more to Generation X and even more to Generation Z. In this age, the value of the team is the value of the leader. The value of the leadership is the greatest asset of a team. Once, a team was defined by loyalty, precision and dedication, but now it has extended to freedom, passion and flexibility. Likewise, a leader is defined by competence, liberalism and broad mindedness.

The youths of Gen Z are self motivated leaders. They are observing and learning from the greatest sources of information. Modernisation and technology has brought their passions closest to reality. Moreover, from schools to colleges to workspace, leadership is more of a requirement than a choice. The times demand for every individual to possess great skills in influencing the clients for a greater and better change. While the world drives on for a massive change that would rewrite the history, it is a necessity for every individual to muddle through it.

So what does it mean to be a leader for Generation Z? What does leadership value to?

Firstly, let's keep the prejudices aside. A refined and extra ordinary talent is going no where near leadership without having what the team demands for. This is exactly what makes leadership different in these times.

While we have been accustomed to seeing the most experienced or the most talented individuals taking the position of the leader, what Gen Z demands is an individual's ability to rightly provide for the team rather than just themselves. An experienced individual is at the risk of being swayed away by 'what is required' than 'what else could be.' Every individual is looking for a team where they can explore the maximum of their abilities with maximum returns. They do not wish to be dictated on what should not be. They are constantly looking for new methods to evolve themselves and the ones around them.

A leader should be ambitious towards the common goal the team strives for. Ambition is no more defined by unhealthy competitiveness that leads to stress, and workload. The kind of ambition that is desired is the one that can constantly inspire the team to work for the goal. The leader must have a vision for which he hones the individuals. Gen Z does not believe in the limitations in the common goals they share. They set their bar high to achieve a goal beyond their potentials.

A leader should be receptive and inclusive. A leader who sets limits and inhibits participation is nothing less than a dictator. One must know that for every great discovery, something new and unaccepted had to be performed to achieve the unknown result. The discoverer dared and so does a leader has to dare. Moreover, a leader should believe in the potential of the individuals more than they themselves do. What energy is to work is what a leader is to a team. If the motivation, flexibility and drive is not provided by the leader, he makes his team one that rides on rhythmic instincts.

A leader cares for his team. While a high IQ has always been expected of any leader, a high emotional intelligence is a new challenge. A leader needs to empathize with his teammates. While he must be decisive and unbiased, a leader must not overexert any individual. He must also be courageous to account for and be responsible for the team. Gen Z completely believes in the ideology of being together in everything they do.

A leader should communicate. Without understanding the needs and potential of a team, none can make a leader. Graphing their potential is not to limit them but to research on the ways of possible growth. Gen Z thrills on constant challenges that can evolve them in new ways. They desire to make an impact. A leader is someone who deliberately introduces them to such challenges and opportunities. Leadership is the ability to get extraordinary achievement from ordinary people.

Lastly, leadership is not the postion. Every individual of a team is a leader. Leadership is about supporting the team in all the ways you can. To inspire is not an entitlement to the position holder. Your voice and notions carries the power to inspire every individual towards the common goal. Every innovative idea that you present has the power to inspire your team mates. A team is not a miner's cart but the block of rails on which the cart travels.

Leadership values to the strength of the team, trust of the team and achievements of the team.

Remember,

A boss has the title,

A leader has the people.

A leader has the people
