♠️ SURVIVING A PANDEMIC♠️
Written by- From_what_I_Pen

2020 took the world by storm. Every country was severely dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. When I travelled to India in February of 2020, I never thought the situation would be so organized. COVID was just starting to make a buzz and I could feel the concern among Indian Government and other authorities. Bangalore Airport had vigorous temperature checks. Each of us expected to fill the health form and each of us could be tracked wherever we went.

The fear was catching up. Though in my entire trip in February and March 2020, we did not wear masks or follow social distancing protocols, we knew COVID was here to stay! Nothing was going to change soon.
Fast forward to 2021, when vaccines came in the scene and we all thought that numbers would start declining, but the second wave hit India so hard that none of thought this debacle would ruin our lives so much! Mandatory lockdowns could not be done because the economy would crash, and the plight of wage daily workers would not be the same anymore!!!

LOCKDOWNS V/S NO LOCKDOWNS

This is a big debate that we are all dealing with. Lockdowns would slow the spread of COVID but invariably the working class which makes up a significant part of our population gets deeply affected. More so because they travel to cities from small towns leaving home and family behind and are dependent on everyday pay for food and living.
Is Government giving facilities to such workers?

Yes and no, relief centers that were set up is not really taking proper care of everyone. Though the problem of having a shelter is solved, food and wages remain an issue.

Also, small businesses like salon shops, tiny eateries, restaurants, coffee shops, ola uber cab drivers, auto drivers all come in a problematic zone when lockdowns are imposed. Businesses that need to pay wages to their employees based on daily income end up cutting down on manpower and job market is drastically affected.

THE PLIGHT OF STUDENTS
Recent developments have led to cancelations of board exams for Class 10 and 12. This situation is even more concerning to students and parents, aiming for success in careers and brighter future.

EDUCATION TO YOUNGER KIDS
Little kids that require social interaction and exposure at small age are getting deprived of basic learnings in their developmental stages. Staying indoors is ruining their playtime and giving them more exposure to screen time even at smaller ages, affecting their physical and social ability.

TRAVEL INDUSTRY
The travel industry has also been drastically hit in the last year and half. Places that solely depend on travel for infrastructure have expressed concerns over livelihood and survival. Small lodges and renting facilities are closing leaving owners with no alternative,

IS VACCINATION A SOLUTION?
Government of India has approved covaxine and covishield to be used for prevention against Coronavirus Pandemic. The first doses of these vaccines were made available to lot of age groups and recently studies have shown that impact of COVID even with one dose has been slightly lower. It is most important to get vaccinated if you are eligible and help control the spread of coronavirus.

We never thought that we would see such a situation in our entire lifetime. Seems like life has come to a big halt. The ever-changing circumstances and rules are bringing so much distress to each of us. The only way of staying safe is by masking, maintaining social distance and washing and sanitizing. Let us hope for a better future and a better world.

Love and hugs
