♠️Brain : Boon or Bane?♠️
Written by- arushirajguru
Yesterday I came across a documentary about the extinction of another human species, the homo erectus. The reason? Us.
When homo sapiens migrated from Africa to India, the land was occupied by the erectus. The two species did not view each other as equals. No human species viewed each other as equals.
As the name suggests, homo erectus was the first human species to stand erect. They were the first ones to make proper use of fire. Archaeological evidences provide sound proof that the erectus cared for their loved ones. It may even be that the homo neanderthals were residing in the same region. It is estimated that a total of 8 or more species once walked on Earth. Yet we were the only ones who survived. How?
We sapiens were very few in number. But we had a bigger advantage over the erectus and the other human species - the size of our brain. This allowed us to think in a way that the others could not. We used our brains to make tools, find food, to hunt and to kill. Our brain gave birth to ideas, and some ideas were deadly. Ideas lead to manipulation and deception. Ideas lead to corruption and hatred, envy and jealousy. We were smarter than the others. That was the biggest thing we had.
For the best or the worst?
Added to it was the super volcanic eruption which occurred at that time, which lead to the scarcity of food, water and habitat. There was limited food and a huge population. We organized ourselves, made plans and weapons, and executed them. Not very soon, the last homo erectus and the other human species faced death.
But some sapiens also mated with the other human species. Some people of African origin have been found with erectus DNA in them. The others aren't totally gone.
What does this suggest? We drove developed human species having double our numbers, to extinction, by only using our brain. Then how much time will it be before we drive the minor species which help in our survival, to extinction?
Our brain. Which makes us thoughtful, more self-conscious than any other living organism. We dream, we respect, care and love. We build, we make, we develop. Our brain, which makes us deceive, corrupt and manipulative. We fool, lie and hide the truth. We laugh when others cry and have almost forgotten why the brain was given to us in the first place.
We break and destroy.
We are evolving. Evolving in such a way that we'll be smarter in the future. So intelligent, that we'd maybe create humans. We're already creating hybrids of animals. Going against nature and its rule. Challenging humanity and human nature. Battling emotions and decisions. Walking against a bright future. Drinking poison knowing we have no antidote. But why give so much power to our brain? Why allow it to do the damage that it does? By giving power to the brain, the only result we've got is destruction and loss.
Control. For peace. So that peace can be made, so that peace lasts.
Stop the brain from being a bane. Turn it into a boon.
Otherwise, how long until we drive ourselves to extinction?
Love and hugs
