Chapter 5

1 Month Later

Elena had been a little down ever since Stefan left but their bi-weekly letters kept her hopeful that one day they'd get another chance to be together.

Nyssa saw how Stefan's absence had affected Elena and while she never explicitly told him to get out of town she still felt somewhat responsible.

Damon hadn't followed his brother he was still around and while part of her knew his "master plan," was nothing good another part warned her to just stay out of it. If he wasn't going after her family she rationalized it was probably better just to mind her own business. Still, Damon had other ideas.

School had let out of the day and Nyssa had started her walk home, unlike Elena she never got involved with any extracurricular activities. Even the chess club was way too horny to be around. 

About 2 blocks from the campus Damon popped out from behind a tree.

"Jesus, what the fuck!" she exclaimed resting her hand over her heart trying to calm down.

"Oops, sorry didn't mean to frighten you," He says completely unapologetically.

Nyssa rolls her eyes, "what do you want, Damon?"

"Why do I have to want something? Maybe I just missed your sparkling personality."

Nyssa gives him a deadpan look not amused.

"Fine, there is a founder's ball tomorrow night at the Lockwood Mansion, you are going to make me your plus one," he explains.

"Why the hell would I do that?" She asks.

"Oh I've just been thinking and since you ran my brother out of town it might be nice to have an ally and since you already know about my little secret I've nominated you."

"Yeah well go back to the nominating process because I don't accept," she tells Damon and moves to walk around him before he stops her.

"Yeah, it wasn't really optional, because if you don't play along with whatever I need from you I'm going to go spill the tea to Elena about how her very own sister is the one responsible for her latest teenage heartbreak."

Nyssa looks around uncomfortable, while she can rationalize she never specifically told Stefan he had to leave only to not put Elena in the middle of whatever was going on between him and his brother she knows Elena won't see it that way.

"Fine, I'll take you to the stupid party but you have to come to my house to pick me up and get my aunt to like you," Nyssa instructs.

"Yeah, I was thinking this would be more of a meet you there kinda thing."

"I rarely ever go out at night let alone date, so no way is it not going to be hella suspicious if I just randomly show up at a party with you. Whatever your reason for going I'm gonna assume having a lot of attention on you probably won't be conducive to your secret diabolical... master plan whatever."

Damon grinds his jaw, "fine I'll pick you up, come in and play the perfect gentlemen, but no falling in love with me," he warns.

Nyssa rolled her eyes, "trust me your safe."

The next night:

Elena was helping Nyssa get ready, she had loaned her a dress and was fixing her hair.

"Thank you for helping me," nerves have started to flood her about going to this party tonight and she is wringing her hands together, "ugh why did I ever say yes to this," she says mostly to herself but Elena answers,

"I think it's good, you're trying to push yourself, get out there more... it's what mom and dad would have wanted,"

Nyssa has to take a deep breath at the mention of their parents but manages to nods, "thanks,"
