Nyssa POV:

Caroline and I were sitting on the floor by the cells waiting for her mom to wake up.

"You can ask me, if you want," I tell her.

She looks at me confused.

"If you want to be human I could try to see if what I did with Stefan was more than just a fluke."

She sighs and rests her head back against the wall.

"No, I don't love what I am now but I didn't love who I was as a human either, at least now it feels like I'm a part of something bigger, like I may have a purpose in the world, does that make sense?"

"Of course it does, but you don't have to be a vampire to have purpose," I tell her.

"I know but I like being strong, being powerful. I don't think I'd like it if I became human again, even if it would make my mom still love me."

I reached over and held her hand, it was all I could do.

Liz Forbes POV:

I had woken up some time ago and had heard everything my daughter had said.

I had always been taught that vampires were evil, completely soulless human killing machines.

But the conversation I just overheard didn't sound evil or soulless.

It sounded like my daughter. My lovely neurotic, insecure, funny, gorgeous daughter.

I hate thinking Caroline might have died and I just hadn't noticed but what if everything I had thought about vampires was wrong? What if somehow my daughter was still here?

No, I can't let myself think like that I had seen Caroline drinking from Nyssa in the car before I somehow lost consciousness. She must have compelled her as well... but what had they meant when they talked about her becoming human again and what Nyssa had done for Stefan?

Damon POV:

I went back to the park and luckily Mason and that deputy were still there.

Stefan saw me and did his best to hurry over, "hey, is Caroline okay?"

"Yeah we got Liz and her friend into the cells just need to take care of deputy fife and I'll head back," I told him.

"What do you mean by take care of him?" Stefan stupidly asks.

"I meant I'll take him out for coffee and see how things go, what do you think I mean?"

"Mason is looking for any reason, don't give him one," Stefan warns.

"Wrong, brother. Mason didn't wait for a reason, shots have already been fired, I'm just responding."

I went to walk by him but he tried again to stop me, "Damon, I'm serious you can't do this,"

"Wrong Stefan, you can't do this, at least not anymore."

Not letting him get in my way again I quickly sidestep him and follow Mason as he goes to collect some bins.

Once we're away from people I show myself.

"Do you have any idea what you've done?" I ask him.

"Back already? I guess that means the Sheriff is dead."

"What? No, Liz is my friend," I tell him somewhat honestly.

I can tell the statement and my earnest tone have confused him.

"What? Expected me to be a monster? Why? I didn't expect you to go all teen wolf and start trying out for the basketball team?" I tell him.

He rolls his eyes at me.
