Long Way Home

"Trust me?"
I hear Calum's raspy voice in my ear, as he blindly guides me somewhere outside.
"Yeah."
I can feel the grass tickling the skin on my legs and he holds my hand to keep me steady on my feet.
"Here we go." Removing the blindfold, he reveals a meadow of long grass. The sky is darkening to blues and purples and fireflies flicker in the air around us.
"Wow. This is amazing."
He pulls me to sit on the floor next to him, his guitar in hand and he strums away on the strings as we bask in the beautiful surroundings.
For hours we stay there, just the two of us, and we drag out the time we get to spend with each other. Doing the simplest of things.
"It's almost 11. We should get going." He stands up, brushing the grass from his jeans and offering me a hand up from the ground.
"Thank you." I lightly kiss his lips, before we head off in the direction of the road where the car is.
"Let's go off the trail." I look up at him as he suggests walking off the main trail back to the car. Could be fun. Could be dangerous.
"I think getting to the car is safer."
"Nothing will happen," he pulls me closer to him and looks deep into my eyes, I feel safe just looking at him, "I wouldn't let anything happen to you."
Without even uttering a word, we walk hand in hand through the shrubbery and trees. Talking, laughing and singing. Taking the long way back to normalcy.
