Calum's POV
Doing what we do, we spend an extensive amount of time together. Morning, noon and night. We eat together, we travel together, we sleep together. Not like that, just sharing a room. Sometimes sharing a bed if one of us is lonely. Friends do weird shit for each other. But I love these guys and would do anything for them.
That's why, when one of our best friends fucked us over for a girl, I genuinely thought that the band was done. I couldn't forgive him.
As most people know, the bad originally consisted of myself, Luke and Michael. Then along came Ashton and I almost begged him to be in our band. When he joined, we felt complete. We became a real band and we wanted to do this for real, a career instead of just a dream with a YouTube account.
All 4 of us became inseparable. We toured countries, then continents. We supported and then we headlined. It was beyond incredible, and we did it altogether.
That's when it seemed our friendships became less sturdy. We didn't spend a constant amount of time together - which was unusual for us, and the fans noticed - and we did our own thing when on breaks and even ended up on opposite ends of the planet.
That's how the drama started.
I stayed in Australia to spend more time with my family, Luke and Michael doing the same, and Ashton decided to fly out to LA a couple of weeks early.
This fucked up some plans we had to go writing on a long weekend road trip we had been planning for months. It was our down time, just the 4 of us, and he bailed to get laid.
                              ~
"I told you guys, I'm seeing someone." Ashton groaned in annoyance when we confronted him at the hotel, we flew out to LA on our scheduled flights and met him out there. Planning on catching up this afternoon, he double booked us with his new girlfriend.
"We get that, Ash." Luke tries to end this possible argument before it begins, "but we always said the band comes first."
"Yeah, bros before hoes." Mikey says, his tone cheeky and self explanatory. I don't think he quite knows the extent of what is going on.
"She's not a fucking whore."
"It was an expression, Ash!" I fume, really beginning to get tired of where this is going, "she could be a fucking whore for all we know. She's definitely manipulative."
"What the fuck do you even mean?!"
"You flew half way across the world, bailing on your best mates and your dream, to go on a few shitty dates with a lass you barely know? You didn't do that by your own choice, Ash."
I know I shouldn't start an argument or carry it on, but he needs to know the effect he's having on the band. Luke and Mikey won't say anything, so it's my job to stand up and defend the band. We want to make it to decades old, not a few measly years.
"This is fucking insane! Have you heard yourself?"
"Lads, come on, let's drop it alright?" Luke and Mikey step towards us to try and settle the situation, but I step closer to Ash to challenge him so we can all say what we're really thinking. No point sugar coating it.
"No. I don't think we should." I raise my voice and I see anger flash in his eyes. "We're best mates, Ash. We're supposed to stick together through thick and thin. Then you drop important stuff to see a girl. You miss important events, or work to develop the next stage in our careers, all for a girl. We always said that we wouldn't let our personal lives mix up with the band. Yet here we are."
I gesture around us to show him the fucking mess of an argument we're in now. Mikey and Luke stay silent as Ashton retaliates, loud and angry.
"Well I'm sorry if I want something more meaningful in my life-"
"The band isn't meaningful?! Don't forget, you'd have none of this if it wasn't for us!"
A beat.
Silence.
A breath.
"Well, maybe this is where I get rid of all of this."
His voice is quiet and it doesn't quite sink in what he means, Luke begins to panic and ask him what he means. We need an explanation.
"I don't think I want to be apart of this lifestyle anymore. No more travelling, no more hotel rooms and recording studios. I'm done."
He shrugs his shoulders and walks off to the hotel door, going to leave and none of us stop him. If he really wants to leave, then let him, I won't stop him.
We all watch him walk away from us in silence and we realise - as we look at each other in shock and sadness - we just became a 3 piece. The entire band is no longer.
