You sat waiting on the sofa for Luke's arrival, he hadn't come home after work like he promised he would. Your relationship had been rocky recently, you blamed it on the fact he was having to work harder and for longer hours, resulting in your relationship being affected. You rarely saw him due to him getting home late on a night, meaning you're usually in bed asleep and then he's up and out before you even open your eyes in a morning. His behaviour had also been rather distant. Not returning your phone calls or text messages, and even sleeping on the opposite end of the bed as opposed to cuddling with you during the night like he used to do.
When you over thought everything that has been happening over the past few months, it made you worry about what he was really doing, not quite believing that work was the reasons behind his actions. You suspected he was cheating on you with someone prettier. Someone that was an improvement on you.
You had been sat waiting in the dimly lit room, watching the front door for several hours now so that you could see Luke and hopefully put your suspicions and doubts behind you. Looking over at the clock, you realised it was passed 2am and it was probably about time you should give up and head upstairs to bed, not expecting Luke to come strolling in anytime soon.
Just as you get up from the sofa, the door opens, moonlight flooding into the hallway keeping the figure entering the house in the dark, but you know exactly who it is and you can smell a faint scent of alcohol on him. He stumbles over his own two feet, before steadying himself as you stand and watch him in disbelief, not quite wanting him to acknowledge you yet to see what he does.
"Fuck." He mumbles, attempting to take his jacket off whilst swaying on the spot and letting it drop to the floor. You shake your head at the state he's in, coughing to grab his attention, causing him to freeze on the spot with his back to you. He slowly turns around, reluctant probably so that he doesn't have to deal with you, but there's no way you're not going to have this discussion now.
"Where have you been?" Your voice low but you know he can hear you. You don't want to go into a full blown argument yet, but you know it's more than likely going to build up into that.
"Um, work, babe you know that." He smirks at you, his words not confident and you can see right through his lie and feel repulsed at him calling you babe.
"Don't call me that. And I know for a fact you haven't been at work Luke, unless you work in a brewery. So, answer me. Where have you been?" Your words firm and gaze hard, showing him he better tell the truth because you're not in the mood for any of his lies tonight.
"I went for one drink with the lads after work, honestly." You can see right through his poorly chosen lie, you roll your eyes and call him out.
"Oh really? Well Ashton's been home a few hours now. As has Calum, and Mikey didn't even go out, so what does that say? Huh?" Your voice is cold, your face showing no emotion as you call him out on his lies.
"Look, babe. It's not what-"
"It's not what it looks like?" You mock the age old question asked in TV shows and films, knowing that's exactly what he was going to say. He stares at you, taken aback with you cutting him off with what he was going to say. He looks at you as if he knows where it's going, but he's just putting it off until it happens.
"But it's not, I swear." He rushes his words out, trying to defend himself whilst you just stand there, arms folded over your chest. "I went out to relax after work and I stayed behind after the guys left. I know I should have been home earlier, I promised I would be but I lost track of time and" You cut him off again from spewing anymore bullshit your way.
"Did you lose track of time when some slapper was eating your neck?" You ask in false humour, a disappointed smile on your face at his actions. The colours on his neck proving your suspicions of him cheating right.
"What?" He stutters out quietly. You laugh without humour, shaking your head in utter disbelief at him playing stupid to the situation.
"You can't think I wouldn't notice, when it looks like Count Dracula has had a feeding session on your neck Luke!" You yell at him, you didn't want to get angry but you prefer it over being sad. You didn't want Luke to see you cry, your tears you would save for yourself not for him.
"Again, it's not what it looks like." He pleads with you, your jaw drops at the innocent card he's trying to play. He tries to make his way over to you but you step back, not wanting to be touched by him right now.
"That line again. Come off it, Luke. Grow a pair and admit it!" You shout at him, your throat going dry from the words you scream in his direction. You see him clench his jaw and know that he's almost at breaking point.
"Fine. I'll admit it. I came home late because I was with someone else, ok? Is that what you was so desperate to hear from me, Y/N?" He yells back at you, finally admitting there was, or has been, someone else. Even though deep down you already knew this information, he admitting it knocks the wind out of you and causes your heart to skip beats. Not in the way he used to make you feel.
"How many times?" You ask quietly. "And be honest with me, Luke."
"Several." He whispers, his glossy eyes not being able to maintain contact with yours, which you're sure are wetter than his, tears threatening to escape.
Inhaling a shaky deep breath, you look over at him as he hangs his head in shame, staring at the ground. You slowly walk around him, heading upstairs to your bedroom so you can start packing a bag. You're not sure where it is you will be going, you just know you need to get away from him and this house. There was no way you could stay in this bed, knowing that someone else has probably stayed in it with him. Grabbing a suitcase, you begin stuffing clothes into it messily. Not caring that it wasn't neat and tidy, it was representing your life perfectly.
"Where are you going?" You hear Luke mumble from behind you, curious as to what you're doing and you can't help but laugh through the tears at his stupidity.
"Do you really think I'm just going to stay here and remain playing happy families with you, Luke?" You can't help but think how unbelievable he is, thinking you would stick around after he single-handedly ruined your relationship. He broke your trust and you won't let him even attempt to build it back up, it's not a risk you're willing to take.
"So, what? You're just going to leave me? Just throw a 2 year relationship down the drain?" He's getting angry again, tears are still streaming down his face like before. You scoff at his accusation that you're the one throwing the relationship away.
"Me throwing it away? You've got to be kidding me, Luke! You're the one that hooked up with someone else several times, you even admitted it yourself!" Hot, angry tears leave your eyes and you're becoming frustrated with the situation, wanting to pack your bags and get out of there as quickly as possible.
"I know I did, but we can work it out right?" He asks you and you can't believe that he would genuinely think that.
"You haven't even said sorry yet, Luke." You say to him in a pitying tone, you feel sorry for him not for yourself. He's the one that cheated but he's going to suffer more than you because karma will deal with him. His light blue eyes stare at you as he opens and closes his mouth at a loss for words. You turn back around, zipping up your bag and grabbing your case. You head towards the door, looking back at Luke once last time as he stands there looking broken. You whisper a goodbye, giving him a sad smile, before closing the door behind and leaving the house you both shared.
