The rain was scattering downwards all around you as you raced across the busy street, your jacket over your head, in an attempt to keep you dry. The water was sloshing around on the floor, seeping into your now wet shoes. Grumbling in annoyance, you see a small coffee shop ahead, dreaming of the warmth within, you make your way across to it.
The place was as warm inside as you thought it would, opening the door the warmth engulfed you similar to a hug from a loved one. The little bell above the door dinged, signalling your entrance, attracting the attention of a few of the patrons as you walked inside. You let go of the door waiting for it to close, only for it to open immediately after, the bell going off and someone entering from the miserable weather outside. Due to the slightly damp floor, from peoples wet shoes and wet clothing, the wooden flooring was slippery causing the person, who just entered hurriedly to get in from the weather, to smack into the back of you as you waited in the queue. You stumbled forward slightly, the person who just fell into you grabbing your upper arms roughly from behind to help you regain your balance.
Turning round angrily, ready to snap at the person that collided with your back, your gazed upon a tanned guy around the same age as you. Dark, messy hair tucked underneath a beanie hat and his upper body covered in a soaking wet black hoodie, he looks at you apologetically, teeth nibbling at his lower lip.
"I'm really sorry, I didn't expect the floor to be that wet." He rambles to you nervously, repeatedly apologising and asking if you're OK. You nod whilst replying.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Its OK, honestly. No injuries, so you can walk away with a guilty conscience." You smile at him, hoping to ease the tension between the two of you. He's clearly bothered that he's hurt you, even though it was on accident. Not once do his deep brown eyes leave your Y/E/C ones, making you feel slightly uneasy to be having such an intense moment with a complete stranger.
"Let me buy you a drink, to say sorry. Please, its the least I can do." He pleads, not wanting to turn him down and leave him feeling continuously guilty, you agree.
"Yeah, ill have a tea please." You say, stepping to the side slightly so that he can place both of your orders at the counter. He pays and suggests you go get a table for the pair of you whilst he waits. "What makes you think I'm going to join you, especially after you assaulted me?" You ask in mock seriousness. His jaw drops slightly, mouth open unsure of how to respond to you, until you snort a small laugh and he realises you're joking.
"Ha, ha, very funny." His voice trailing away, as you make your way over to a table by the window to wait for him. "Here you go." He hands you a cup full of steaming liquid, making goosebumps rise on your arms from the heat.
"Thank you." You smile at him, he realises he's staring at you and looks away out of the window, a light blush appearing on his cheeks. After a few minutes of silence, him staring out the steamed up windows as you sip your tea, you decide to break the ice. "Considering you practically forced me to sit with you, you're not being very good company." You state in a joking manner. His gaze immediately focuses on you.
"I'm sorry, again." He chuckles, a small grin appearing on your own face waiting for him to start a real conversation, before you get up and leave. "I'm Calum, by the way. We never actually exchanged names or had a real greeting."
"Yeah, I became more acquainted with the floor." You state, a smirk on your face as his brows raise in disbelief, chuckling.
"You barely moved." He complained, one minute he's apologising, now he's taking it right back and not having any responsibility.
"You could have seriously injured me, Conrad." You reply, crossing your arms over your chest, the smirk never faltering.
"Conrad?" He asks, confusion in his voice and on his face. "Its Calum, I told you that less than two minutes ago."
"Sorry, it must be my nervous disposition playing up from that accident you just caused me." Your tone smug, you're having a lot more fun that you thought playing him, even if he wasn't completely aware of what was going on.
"Whoa, what?" He asks incredulously, you cant fight the laughter any more and expel a giggle at his reactions throughout the conversation. "You're joking." He finally cottons on, joining in with your laughter.
"Sorry, I had to do that, after everything you just put me through." You say, still laughing.
"Very funny." He replies, trying to sound unamused but the smile on his face says different.
"It was actually." You say, looking out the window you notice the rain dying off. Finishing off the rest of your drink, you begin to get up and grab your bag. "Well thank you, for that and for the drink. Oh and for colliding with me. But I've got to get going. Thanks again." You begin to make your way to the door of the coffee shop, when his voice stops you.
"Hang on, you didn't even tell me your name." You slowly turn around, smiling. Contemplating whether to tell him or not. "Tell me or go to dinner with me, its the least you could do for pulling that 'Conrad' thing earlier." He says, him now wearing the smirk.
"And what if I wanted to go to dinner?" You decide to tease him, challenge him even, in his proposition.
"Then I guess I win either way." His smirk growing, you're willing to give in and let him win.
"Meet me here, tomorrow at 1. If you're not here, then ill leave." He nods at you, agreeing to your terms. You smile at him before bidding him a farewell. "See you tomorrow then, Conrad."
You exit the shop, stepping out into the cold weather leaving behind the warmth of the shop and the warmth of his laughter at your farewell.
