"Baaaaaabe, have you finished yet?"
We had only just arrived into this shop, yeah we went in a fair few before this one, but it has different clothes to the others. He just needs to be patient.
"Mikeeeeeeeey, no we haven't."
I hear him grumble to himself about it being a waste of time and he wants to play video games. He was the one that begged to come with me and I'm carrying him like dead weight. I haven't told him how many more stores I want to go to in the shopping centre, because when I do, he will go in a right huff.
"You already have that shirt."
"Not in this colour I don't."
I fold it over my arm and continue searching through the racks for bargains. I'm flicking through the hangers, trying to find clothes on sale or clothes in my size, and I grab a top to show Mikey.
"What do you think of this? Is it me?"
I turn to look for him and can't see him anywhere. I know I've been barely paying him any attention, my focus on clothes and shoes, but it's a bit rude to just walk off without telling me.
I walk through the remainder of the store, setting the small pile of clothing I had accumulated, and decide to go and look for him. I call his phone twice and there is no answer, and my texts go unread, he's really taking the mick now.
I'm half way around the shopping centre now, still no sign of his bright coloured hair amongst the masses, until a store painted black and purple catches me attention.
There, in the middle of that store, is Mikey. He is playing on their demo Xbox console and is challenging a boy no older than 12 to a game. They're both shouting abuse at one another and are getting odd looks from the store workers. God, this is embarrassing.
"VICTORY!"
Mikey sticks his tongue out at the kid and holds his arms up for winning, the kid sulking off to go find his parents.
"Seriously, Michael?"
He turns to me and smiles widely, his teeth on show and he winks at me.
"Did you see my win, babe?"
"I did. What was he? 12?"
"When it comes to video games, your age doesn't count. It's all about strategies and ability. It's a natural talent that some are born with."
He winds his arms around my waist and I'm trying to look displeased, not interested, but being around him, it's hard to keep it up.
"You do this every time."
"Shopping is boring."
"You wanted to come with me."
He huffs out and rolls his eyes.
"I wanted to spend time with you, can you blame me? Just not in Top Shop."
"Fine. Whoever wins the next round, chooses where we go next."
"Wins the next round of what?"
His confusion is adorable and when I walk over to grab a controller for the Xbox, he almost laughs out loud.
"Oh, you're so on babe."
