You watch as the seconds slowly tick by on the clock. The longer you stare at it, the slower it seems to move, almost as if it's at a standstill.
5 minutes turned into 15, which soon turned into an hour. An entire hour you had been sat at the kitchen table waiting, somewhat patiently, for your boyfriend Calum to come pick you up. Something he had failed to do.
You reluctantly change into comfier clothes, ready to call it a night with a movie and blankets when you hear lazy knocks on your front door.
You slowly walk to the door, in no rush to see who your visitor is. As you open the door you see an apologetic Calum standing there dressed and ready to go.
"Hey babe, sorry I'm late, I had a thing and it ran late. Wait" He looks you up and down before adding "why aren't you ready? We've got to get going, right?"
You slowly count to 10, taking a deep breath not wanting to argue, seeing as it's just something you and Calum don't do. But this time, he had gone too far.
"Why aren't I ready? Calum, you're over 2 hours late. 2 hours Calum! We had reservations, our friends were waiting for us to meet them for dinner and you didn't even bother to call and tell me you was going to be late. You shouldn't have even bothered turning up if it was going to be this late!" You fumed, your words becoming louder and faster towards the end of your sentences. You could feel yourself on the edge of a full blown raging tantrum, something you didn't necessarily want him to witness.
"Look, I'm sorry I'm late but I have other commitments too, you know. Not everything just revolves around things that I have 'planned' with you!" He responds in a harsh tone that you had never heard him use before, not even when he'd been at his angriest. And the use of quotation marks in the sentence hurt your feelings.
You feel tears slowly begin to well up in your eyes, you quickly blink them away not wanting him to see you in such a weak state. You take a deep breath before telling him to leave.
"Fine. I'll leave, I don't even know what I'm doing here anyway. I have better things I could be doing right now than this. Such a waste of a time" muttering the last sentence under his breath, you almost miss it but when you hear that sentence it almost breaks you.
You let the tears flow down, as he slams the door behind him. As you begin to sob uncontrollably, you wrap your arms around yourself and slowly slide down the wall you had been leaning against and sit on the floor with your knees to your chest. Your breathing becomes louder and you're struggling to get air into your lungs, until your feel a warm arm wrap around your shoulders.
"Shh, baby. Calm down, okay? It was a little argument, yeah? I'm so sorry, don't cry. I hate to see you cry." he whispers to you, as you slowly begin to calm down, nuzzling your head into the crook of his neck, as he repeatedly places light kisses in your hair.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't meant t-to get mad at you, I was just angry thinking you had let me down. I don't want to be let down" you stammer out, still sniffling from the small crying fit you just had.
He doesn't take more than half a minute before he replies, seeming so sure of himself.
"I will never let you down. You have to believe that, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, please forgive me?"
You slowly pull away from him, looking into his eyes.
"Of course I forgive you, it was our first argument and we will more than likely have many more. If you're not too busy doing 'more important things' what do you say to watching TV and falling asleep on the sofa?" you ask him hopefully.
He looks up towards the ceiling, as if he is contemplating your offer. A grin begins to spread across his face as he looks back down at you.
"I'd love to." he whispers, as he slowly leans forward and plants a small kiss against your lips, so lightly you barely even feel it. And right then is when you know, that no matter the argument, big or small, you and Calum can overcome it.
