Snow was falling outside as you grabbed your scarf and wrapped it around your neck on the short walk to your car. Starting the engine, you pulled off down the street and headed to your destination. The roads were icy, so you had to drive slowly to reduce the risk of an accident. You shouldn't have been driving out in this kind of weather but you needed to see Ashton desperately.
You told everything to him and right now you needed to talk, not having anyone else to talk to. Parking up outside his house, you step out of the car carefully and walk up his driveway to the front door knocking loudly. He doesn't answer straight away, resulting in you knocking loudly several times until the doors swings open harshly with Ashton holding it open, a confused look on his face.
"Y/N, what are you doing here? Is everything ok?" He asks you curiously, you don't say anything at first but look Ashton up and down only to notice he's shirtless.
"Oh, um, I don't know sorry. Are you busy? Can I come in?" You ask him, the sight of him shirtless sending your mind blank for a moment. It's not every day you get to see your best friend in very little clothing.
"Actually, right now isn't a very good time. If you wait a minute I can grab a shirt and we can talk outside?"
"Well, it's kind of cold. Don't know if you've noticed but it's sort of snowing?" You try to joke with him, confused why you he's not letting you into his house but willing to let it go.
"Ashton, where are you?" You hear an unknown voice call for him from upstairs, you look behind him even though you know nobody is there. He brings a hand to his face and rubs it, looking slightly aggravated at the interruption. He clearly wanted to get away without having to explain he had someone around.
"Oh, you're busy. I get it." You laugh without humour, something he picks up on immediately. He looks over at you, about to speak but you cut him off by continuing. "Its fine I'll go."
You turn around, wrapping your clothing around your body tighter so that you can maintain what little warmth that you have left in your body on the walk to your car.
"Y/N, wait!" Ashton calls after you, bringing you to a stop so that you can turn around and hear him out. He's still stood in the doorway, not having followed you. You weren't expecting him to but every so often, you liked to think that you'll get the fairy tale ending you've always wanted with him. "It's not what it looks like." His voice is light and quiet, so quiet it's barely audible but you just hear about him.
"Ashton, you don't need to explain yourself to me. We're just friends, right?" You try to fake a smile, not sure if it's convincing or not but you tried anyway. His face barely lifts up, sadness flooding his features as you turn to walk away and leave.
You think you hear him mumble something quietly from inside the house, but when you turn back round to ask him to repeat it, he's already gone back inside and closed the door. You feel warm tears brim your eyes and you look up at the grey sky to blink back the tears, not wanting to cry over a "friend".
