“Calum!” You shout through the house when you open the door, kicking off your work shoes and placing your bag on the floor. “Cal, I have news!” He doesn’t respond so you decide on checking the living room in the hopes he’s watching the TV. No luck. You venture on towards the kitchen and joint dining area to see the lights dimmed, not fully off, and candles lit in the centre of the table.
The table is set for a meal, with good silverware and china. Soft, melodic music is playing in the background as you stare in awe at the table and its surroundings. Stood at the head of the table is Calum, dressed in a fine black suit, wearing a beaming grin that lights up the room better than any candle light.
“Good evening.” He says to you, his voice smooth and soft, fitting with the atmosphere.
“Evening.” You reply, becoming shy under his intense gaze. He gestures to the seat in front of him, pulling it out for you to sit down, like a true gentleman.
“I'll be right back with the first course and then you can tell me this amazing news of yours.” He winks at you, walking away and you lean back in your chair slight to check him out from behind. You shake your head smiling, you rarely got to see him dressing so well, so you thought you'd take advantage of the situation. He walks back in, two plates in hand and sets one down in front of you. On the plate is 2 slices of pizza from your favourite takeaway, you laugh out loud, it was so obvious Calum wouldn’t have cooked, yet you still thought he might have due to the effort he had put into everything else. He joins in with the laughter, trying to maintain an oblivious look on his face, claiming he 'cooked' the pizza.
“Of course you did, babe. I believe you.” Your tone sarcastic. He grins, rolling his eyes at your comment. “What's all this for anyway?” You ask before taking a bite of your food.
“Nothing really. Just wanted to surprise you when you got in from work. I know you’ve been stressed lately, so thought you could take this time to relax.” He says to you, smiling, his brown eyes full of adoration for you. You smile back at him, so thankful to have someone as caring and thoughtful as him in your life. “So, what’s this news you was so eager to tell me?”
“Oh, right of course.” You mutter out, swallowing the food you had just bitten off. Clearing your throat, grinning at Calum you tell him your news. “I got a promotion at work, I'm now an accounts manager for the company.” You giddily say, you had been working your ass off for a solid year to get this position and they offered you it, you were ecstatic. Calum's jaw drops in disbelief, he always said you worked hard and that it would pay off but its been a long waiting game, now that its officially here, its clear that he cant believe its happening.
“What? Really?? Is this a joke?” Disbelief evident in his tone. You roll your eyes and chuckle at his reaction.
“It's real. It's not a joke. I got the job!” He gets up from the table, walking around to your chair and pulls you up by your arm, so that you’re standing, and envelops you in a warm hug. You nuzzle your face into the crook of his neck as he repeatedly congratulates you and tells you how proud he is of you. You pull away slightly to see a full grin on display and he leans down and pecks your lips, the grin never fading even for a second. “Thank you.”
“You don’t need to thank me. You was the one that put in all that hard work, I'm proud of you for waiting it out, I sure as hell wouldn’t have been able to.” He says chuckling. You smile, shaking your head.
“Nope, if you didn’t push me then I would be in that rubbish position for another year. So, thank you for motivating me. I don’t know what I would do without you, you’re my rock.” You lean up and kiss him sweetly, both of you smiling into the kiss then pull away.
“Anything for my missus.” He winks at you, quietly laughing. You pull away from his embrace, a smug smirk on your lips as you reply.
“I aren’t going to be your missus, until you put a ring on this finger.” You sing, raising your left hand and pointing to your ring finger. He laughs loudly.
“All in good time, Mrs Hood. All in good time.”
