Luke Imagine
Song used - James Morrison ft Jessie J - Up **song on the side
The stage lights went up, sending the crowd into a manic frenzy. Screams come from every area of the venue you're in, your nerves setting in. You're standing just off stage with your band mates, waiting for 5SOS to come on stage and perform to their sell-out crowd.
All 4 lads walk on stage to rounds of applause, you and your band joining in with the cheering, ready to get the concert started. They kicked off the show immediately, the crowd never quieting down, the combined sounds of the music and the crowd sending vibrations through your chest, making you smile.
About 3 songs in, Luke decides to talk with the crowd. Due to you being rather ignorant, you choose to talk with your drummer until the next song comes on and it isn't until you hear your name through the sound system and a deafening roar from the crowd, do you divert your attention to the stage. You see Luke on stage, his acoustic guitar strapped across his chest, beckoning you to come on stage, a wide smile covering his face. You stay standing, frozen to your spot. You're not nervous, you do this for a living, but you're taken off guard. Your band mates push you forward slightly, trying to urge you to go on stage and join Luke for a duet. A guitar tech rushes up to you, your Gibson J-200 Custom in his hands, and he pulls the strap over your neck, whilst you take deep breaths before walking out onto the stage, the crowd going insane.
You wave at the crowd, giving Luke a "what-the-fuck" look not very happy with your unprepared, unrehearsed début onto the stage. He speaks into the microphone to the crowd, you standing to his left feeling completely awkward just stood there, your guitar in your hands.
"So, what do you all say?" Luke asks the crowd, they scream louder than you've heard them all night and you're taken aback by the noise. Luke smiles at you, you return the smile and he begins to play the guitar. You stand there shell-shocked, during your internal monologue you didn't listen to what he said to the crowd, therefore you don't know what song you're supposed to be singing with him.
He begins to gentle strum the guitar, humming into the microphone, Mikey slowly joining in with a light amount of electric guitar, with Calum on bass. You just stand there, waiting to recognise the song so you can join in, both lyrically and instrumentally.
"How can I find you, when you're always hiding from yourself, playing hide and seek with me, till it gets too dark, too dark inside your shell" His raspy voice sings beautifully into the microphone, the crowd still listening to his every word. You smile to yourself at the response he gets from a room full of people, slowly Ashton comes in with a light drum beat for the chorus. You also join in, realising what song it is, strumming the strings, waiting for your cue to begin singing your part of the song. Luke finishes his chorus and your moment comes to begin singing your verse.
"I watch your spirit break, as it shatters into a million pieces, just like glass I see right through you, and your parade of excuses" Your voice soft yet powerful, causing Luke to smile widely at you. He's always claimed that one of his favourite sounds is you singing. You both join in to do the second chorus.
"It's never too late to turn it back around, yeah I know you can, don't bury your demons in the ground, when it all falls down, the only way is up, up, up, the only way is up, up" Your voices meshing together like a perfect harmony, just like the two of you. You see the crowd swaying from side to side, some mouthing the lyrics with you, others just standing in awe and appreciating the experience which is going on right in front of their very eyes. You and Luke hold your notes together to end the song, the adrenaline from performing pumping through your veins as you step away from the microphone, grinning like a Cheshire cat. You and Luke high five, congratulating one another on a well-oiled performance, which neither of you had rehearsed apart from playing about on one of your days off when on tour together.
You walk off stage to cheering and whooping from the crowd, shaking your head at the unbelievable feeling of all the people genuinely enjoying your music. You stand off to the side with your band again and watch as Luke, Calum, Ashton and Mikey finish off their set list.
