Your POV

You was sat amongst the rowdy pupils in the school cafeteria, the sounds around you deafening as you strained to hear what your friends was saying amid your group. Shuffling closer into the group, you could hear the girls perfectly, them sitting to the right of the table with the guys on the left. Conversations flowed perfectly from both sets of people, them never crossing over due to the girls talking about the school "hottie" and the guys not being that interested in that subject topic.

"He is so hot though. I don't get how he's still single." Your friend claimed in disbelief all of the girls agreeing, yourself included. He really was one of the best looking guys in school and he wasn't a douche about it either, like most people would be. Several comments are thrown around about him and you input from time to time.

"He's sitting next to me in my next lesson." You exclaim proudly, the rest of the girls letting their jaws drop at the new found information.

"Oh my gosh! How did we not know this?" One of your friends asks, all of them nodding excitedly in agreement wanting to know more information.

"I don't know. We never brought it up." You lightly chuckle, going on to answer some of their questions. "Yes, we've talked. Only small conversations but he seems really nice and genuine."

"You should totally go for it!" Another of your friends states, the rest agreeing. Saying if you don't they will. You all sit there giggling like the teenagers you are, passing round tips on how to talk to him or ask him out.

You hear one of the guys next to you scoff at all of your excited, girlish squeals. You turn to your left to see Mikey sat with the guys, shaking his head in shame at you. You're not usually like this, tending to play it cool around guys and not usually being that bothered about them, so this is new for him to see you this way. You giggle at his reaction, causing him to roll his eyes as the girls turn to him to tell him off for judging you all.

"He's hot, Mikey." Someone remarks, as if this is a good defence for the way you're all reacting.

"Sure he is." Mikey retorts, his voice mocking as he looks over at you, eyes silently judging you.

"He is!" The same friend reasons.

"You're only jealous." Someone else pitches in, causing Mikey's gaze to jump from you to the person who said it.

"What?" He stutters, voice slightly higher than usual, making him seem nervous for reasons unknown to you. "Jealous? Me? Yeah right." All your friends share a laugh whilst you remain sat in confusion, Mikey trying to retract from the conversation that he no longer wants to be a part of.

"Yes, you are. It's because Y/N is drooling over some guy that isn't you." Your friend mocks him, causing you to look over at Mikey and the unknown news to see if what your friend is saying is true. When you see Mikey looking down at the ground, jaw clenched you decide it must be otherwise he wouldn't be looking so annoyed at your friend blurting out this information. "See, I told you." She laughs, the rest of the group joining in as Mikey gets up from the table, his chair falling to the floor from the harsh push he gave it when getting up.

He hurriedly walks from the cafeteria, leaving you sat open mouthed at the events that just occurred. Your friends make jokes about what just happened, angering you that they would make light of a serious situation. You get up, ignoring the remarks from your friends, and follow the path Mikey went only moments earlier. After searching for a good part of the remainder of your lunch break, you stumble upon Mikey sitting on the steps at the front of the building you're in. Carefully you approach him, coughing slightly to see if he will acknowledge your presence. When he doesn't you choose to sit down beside him and break the silence.

"I'm sorry." You whisper out. Not knowing quite what you're apologising for but you are anyway. Maybe it's for rubbing it in his face talking about another guy, even though you wasn't aware of Mikey's feelings towards you, or perhaps that your friends laughed at him when he was upset.

"Why? You haven't done anything. I'm the idiot." He laughs, clearly thinking he's being delusional with feeling something for you. He never looks up from the ground, probably too ashamed of himself to look at you.

"Why are you an idiot? I don't think you're an idiot." You admit quietly to him, this causes him to look at you, his face only showing disbelief.

"Why am I an idiot?" He mocks before continuing in a frustrated tone. "I'm an idiot because I thought I had a shot with you. You. This beautiful, amazing and smart girl that could have the 'hottest guy' in school in the palm of her hand, yet I'm walking around after you like a love sick puppy without a chance in hell of being with someone as brilliant as you."

"Oh please, come off it Mikey. You and I both know that's utter bullshit if I've ever heard it." You scoff, having never heard anything so ridiculous before. "I've liked you for ages but I assumed you didn't like me. You never said anything and never hinted towards having feelings towards me so how was I supposed to know. True I never told you, but you never told me either."

"You liked me? So, what? Does that mean you no longer like me?" He asks softly, like the breeze that's rolling around you.

"I liked. I still like." You say to him, a small smile on your face that you hope he soon starts wearing. He looks into your eyes, as if testing to see if you're telling the truth. You maintain eye contact with him, hoping he believes your words. When a small smile tugs at the corners of his lips, you know it's worked.

"You like me." He says more to himself than to you, but you nod along anyway resulting in you both chuckling. His hands are in his lap and you reach across, gently intertwining your fingers with his and he squeezes your hand in approval. "So, if I asked you out, would you say yes?"

"That depends. Is that your way of asking me out?" You lightly laugh, causing him to join in.

"Yeah, it kind of was."

"Then, yes. I would love to go out with you, Mikey."
