Time jump evening

When we had been in the hotel for a while now and Mum was already asleep in the next room, I continued to lie awake in bed and couldn't close an eye. My thoughts were with Logan and that I should go and stay with him. On the one hand it was a good thing to be with him on the other hand I was also a bit afraid that Logan's father might come back and then we would all be trapped. Briefly I looked into the next room and saw that Mum was still sleeping and wouldn't notice until tomorrow morning if I went to Logan now. Without further ado I decided to write to Logan and hope for a positive answer. Currently it was just about 1am and I hoped he would not be asleep yet. Shortly after I messaged him, I got a reply.

"Are you really sure you want to come over now?"

"I'd like nothing better than that Logan. I want to be there for you during this difficult time"

"I hear you but are you really sure you can come to me alone in the middle of the night right now? I don't want to be responsible if something happens to you"

"Nothing will happen to me. Can I come to you or not?"

"Yes but please take care of yourself and come to the garden when you get there".

"Ok, I will. See you in a bit Logan"

After getting this commitment I got up from my bed, dressed quietly and then slipped out of the hotel room. Outside the room I slowly crept past the other rooms and took the back exit to get out of the hotel faster. After that, I walked down each street so I wouldn't lose much time to finally get to Logan's house. When I could already spot Logan's house, I reduced my pace so that his sister wouldn't notice any of this. Once there, I climbed over the small fence and then slowly walked into the backyard.

"You smoke?", I asked Logan surprised when I saw him sitting on the patio with a cigarette in his hand. "Not usually but I needed something to calm me down," he replied and I joined him. "How are you?", I asked and sat down with him. "How would you feel if you found out that your mother was murdered at the hands of your father?" he asked and then looked at me. "Fucked up?", I replied, looking at him. "Right," he merely said, taking a drag from the cigarette. "Throw that damn cigarette away already," I said sourly, stubbing it out in front of him on the patio. "Sorry," he apologized, looking down at the ground. "Smoking won't bring your mum back now either," I mentioned and he looked at me with a sad look. "Come here," I merely said and hugged him. Logan leaned his head against my chest and I realized after a short while that he was crying. I then hugged him tighter and stroked his head. "Let it all out Logan," I said soothingly and gave him a kiss on the head.

When he calmed down after a while, he looked at me with teary eyes and looked really broken. "Wouldn't you rather go to sleep?", I asked cautiously as he continued to look at me. "No. After what just happened last night, I don't want to". "You really need sleep Logan," I mentioned and realized he was yawning. "No I don't," he denied. "Sooner or later you'll just keel over because you're too exhausted". "Believe me, I'd rather sleep during the day than at night right now," he mentioned, looking down at the floor. "Then how are you going to do that later when you're back in school?", I asked confused. "We'll see about that," he replied, looking at me. "How about I go to your room with you now and we go to sleep together?", I asked and Logan looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "What exactly does that change about what I said?" he asked tensely. "Well. You don't have to be afraid alone because I'm with you. Simple as that," I explained briefly. "You think I'm afraid of the dark as a grown man?" he asked in wonder, looking at me a little sourly. "No but I guess you were really scared when you saw your father yesterday," I said looking at him. "Yeah, I was," he admitted, shaking his head.

"How did she actually...you know..." "Died?", Logan finished my sentence and looked at me with an emotionless look. "Yes. If you want to tell me, if you can't, that's okay too". "Dad stabbed her stomach several times with his knife and just before he fled, he kicked her in the stomach with his foot and she finally died from that internal bleeding," he answered and I looked at him with wide eyes. "That means she..." "Would have made it without the kick. Yeah," Logan finished my sentence again. "That's terrible, or she would be..." "Alive. Yeah," Logan again finished my sentence. "Can you stop doing that?", I asked, looking at him annoyed. "What do you mean?" he asked ignorantly. "Constantly finishing my sentences without being able to fully say it," I explained briefly. "Oh sure," he agreed. "It's bad enough he's already killed Mum. He's got another person on his conscience," Logan began. "What do you mean Logan?", I asked confused. "My mum was pregnant," he replied and I couldn't believe my ears. "Your mum was..." "Don't yell like that. Don't everyone in the neighborhood have to know," he admonished me as I spoke louder than before. "Sorry. That mean you would have had another little brother or sister?", I asked looking at him. "If nothing else had come up, probably yes," he replied, looking down at the floor.

"That's really tragic. Do you think the police have arrested your father yet?", I asked uncertainly. "Honestly, I don't think so. It's not that the police are too incompetent to do so, it's that my father knows some tricks to avoid the authorities so they can't catch him so quickly," he explained. "That means he's still on the loose and already has two people on his conscience," I explained the whole situation. "Right." Shortly after, it started to rain and we decided to go inside.
