Once we made it through that night without either of us falling out of bed, we got ready for the onward journey. Once I got dressed again and dropped off the key at the front desk, I took Shadow for another walk around the block, so we only had to make two stops for him during the drive. "Ready?", I asked Pres as we got back into the car. "Absolutely," she replied with a smile and I started the engine. "Let's go to Minnesota," I mentioned and pulled out of the motel parking lot back onto the highway. "Do you think we should call Jake?" asked Presley and I looked to her briefly, "Why? He'll know we spent the night somewhere else, right?", I asked. "Maybe but I've never seen him so worried about us," she explained. "Whatever you say," I agreed and searched through the contacts on my phone so we could talk to Jake on speakerphone. "Hey Jake," Presley and I greeted him. "Hey you two. Have you guys arrived in Minnesota yet?". "No but we're on our way there right now," Pres replied. "I thought you guys already arrived," Jake said in amazement. "We stopped at a motel because it's a pretty long way from North Richland Hills to Minnesota," I explained.

"I see, and otherwise you two are fine?". "We're fine Jake. Don't worry," I reassured him and smiled. "Then have a safe trip home and I hope to see you again soon," Jake said as a goodbye and then hung up. "Cute how he worries about us," Pres mentioned, taking a sip from the bottle we had taken from the motel. "How much longer are we going Logan?" she asked, looking at me. "Five more hours Presley," I replied and continued down the highway.

5 hours later

Now that we had finally arrived back in Minnesota and I had already dropped Presley off at her friend's house, I was able to drive to my apartment and sleep in my bed again. "Mr. Mitchell, how was your vacation?" asked Mrs. Chaplin as she was walking across the parking lot with her two shopping bags. "Not as expected, I'm afraid. How are you?", I asked, bouncing Shadow out of the car. "Pretty good so far. Every now and then my back aches bother me," she told me and I nodded. "Would you like me to help you with the grocery bags?", I asked, looking at her eagerly. "Oh, you don't have to. After all, it's not your job to help me," she replied. "I know but I'm happy to help," I said, taking both bags from her. "You're such a helpful young man," she said as we entered the apartment block and I set down her purchases. "Depends on how you look at it Mrs. Chaplin," I replied and got my suitcase out of the car, locked it and then entered my apartment.

Some time later

When I had taken my things out of the suitcase, put them in the washing machine, and showered shortly after, I was now lying on the couch watching some program on TV. This feeling that you miss someone very much can hurt a person mentally and there is nothing you can do about it. What makes it worse is that my mother was pregnant. An unborn baby was killed and no one except grandma knew. Really horrible, I thought to myself, and shortly after was jolted out of my thoughts by the doorbell ringing. A little off track, I opened the door to see Kyle standing in front of me. "I really don't need you right now," I said when I saw him. "What's going on Logan?" he asked in a concerned tone. "If I told you, it wouldn't change the fact that you're a fucking insensitive jerk," I replied, closing the door again as he put his foot between them. "You want to talk about it?" he asked, looking at me. "What good would that do except make fun of me?", I asked him. "Logan. I've completely changed in the last few weeks," he told me. "Now I can either believe that or not," I said in response. "Do you want to see for for yourself??". "Kyle. You lied to me, betrayed me, and a lot of other things. Why should I suddenly believe you now?", I asked, looking at him. "I understand you but I miss you as a friend. Please let's talk," he asked. "Fine with me. If you finally give it a rest then," I agreed and let him into my apartment.

"Tell me what happened," he said, sitting down across from me on the armchair to the table. "My mom is dead," I replied, looking at him. Immediately, I noticed his features change from worried to a sad expression. "No. Please tell me that's not true," he pleaded. "Kyle. I would never make jokes about the death of family members or anyone else," I replied. "I'm so sorry Logan," he said, putting an arm around me. "Can I ask how she died?" he asked. "My dad killed her. Also, my mom was pregnant and the unborn child was killed too," I replied, looking at the floor. "That's terrible. Have you informed the police?". "Of course I did but they won't be able to do much either". "You've already planned the funeral too?" he asked. "I've already attended that one. I just got here to my apartment a few hours ago," I replied, taking a sip from my glass. "What's happened to you in the last few weeks that made you change?", I asked eagerly. "I stopped drinking alcohol and doing drugs," Kyle explained. "You did drugs?", I asked incredulously. "Yes, I did Logan," he admitted, looking down at the floor. "Why do you think the fire department and ambulance were here at one point?" he asked and I looked at him confused. "What do you mean Kyle?", I asked confused. "There are drugs you snort, others you ingest and others you smoke among other things. I have the ones you smoke and on this one day I had a mishap. I dropped the paper with the weed on newspapers next to me, which of course burned to the ground, I didn't notice because I was completely stoned and a neighbor in the other apartment block called the fire department and an ambulance," he explained the story. "Now it all makes sense," I mentioned.

"What happened between us Logan," he began, putting his hands on my shoulders. "I'm infinitely sorry," he finished his sentence and looked at me. "I should have never let Viola seduce me and sleep with her. Never hit you, insult you, or beat you up. Been allowed to call anyone of your family or friends names. Most importantly. Losing you as my best friend," he said, hugging me tightly. "I'm so sorry for everything Logan," he sobbed, clinging to me. "I don't want to lose you as a friend. I can also understand if you don't want anything to do with me anymore but I miss you too much and I promise never to hurt you," he said, crying. Before I said anything, I just stroked Kyle's back reassuringly and hugged him as well. "I just need you". "Calm down Kyle," I said quietly, continuing to stroke his back. "I missed you too after all and I hope you're serious about this," I spoke and after that he looked at me with teary eyes. "I swear on my mother's life," he promised. Kyle only made these promises when he really meant it. Our friendship seems to mean a lot to him.
