Rain loudly bumped on the car as Tartaglia and you - both soaking wet - were sitting inside.
It didn't seem like weather was going to get better any time soon.
You could be on your way home or to McDonald's or out of the country but really none of you felt like going anywhere.
Without even noticing your gaze slipped to Childe's face. His fingers were tapping rythm of the song playing on the radio on the dashboard when suddenly he turned to you and your eyes crossed.
You blushed and cleared your throat, looking away.
'Oh c'mon y/n. You can stare as much as you want' he laughed.
'I'm not staring' you said like a seasoned liar, pretending to stare at ponds outside.
Childe snorted.
'Yeah, sure, but what are you thinking?' he asked teasingly. 'You wouldn't blush so much if it wasn't some shamful secret.'
You turned your gaze back at him. He was having way too much fun laughing at you, not only now but in general, and you decided to finally turn the tables.
You wanted to do it because of your good heart, since obviously, it must have been unhealthy to be so amused by your mere existence. You were about to do Childe a huge favor.
'You're pretty' you said. 'That's what I was thinking.'
'Huh?' Tartaglia's sneaky grin suddenly disappeared. 'Pretty?'
You had to cover stupid grin that crept onto your face.
Childe was hopeless when it came to dealing with compliments, especially if they were honest and serious ones.
'Yeah' you shrugged. 'And I guess I like it when you smile. Not like an asshole, though, but like when you seem genuinely happy.'
'Oh.' He cleared his throat and turn his face away. 'Well, thanks.'
You giggled and rolled your eyes as you both let an awkward silence to stay between you for a while.
'It's nice' you said not knowing what for. Maybe to get Tartaglia to talk again. It was strange to be around him and yet not hear him going on and on about some nonsense. 'And I never knew you could be so... peaceful.'
'That's thanks to your good influence.' He winked at you and you only rolled your eyes again. For a while Childe gazed at you, frowning slightly. 'You know we don't need rain to just hang out?' he spoke up.
'Yeah, I know.'
He nodded, with very serious expression on his face.
'Okay, so are you free Saturday night?'
'Ajax, what...?'
'Are you free or not?'
'There's nothing I can't cancel.' You gave him a curious look. 'Why?'
'Then I'll pick you up at 6.' Childe smiled, pleased with your answer. 'And before I forget: which flowers are your favourite?'
