if you never heard of that term, beta reader basically means a person who recieves and reads a text before it is published, be it article, short story or a chapter of a book, and provides the author with feedback (in my case it'll be through a questionnaire) and suggests what can be changed so that the reading experience is overall better. thanks to that, the final text has better quality and, ideally, readers enjoy it more.
