Lan Zhan liked at the front and tapped the carriage side and said " we can go now" and the carriage started moving as the occupants exchanged looks back and forth without saying anything else.
Lan Zhan's hand was covered in bruises that looked fresh and painful and ignored his brother's looks, he knew his brother was not going to ask about it again, that's just how much they knew each other. Indeed Lan Xichen just kept looking at the side window of the carriage trying so hard to distract himself from asking, he wanted to ask Lan Zhan how he got hurt but he knew that if Lan Zhan wanted to answer him he would've done it the first time he asked. Lan Zhan was so focused on the road and looking at passerby and people from the market selling different goods and his eyes flickered as he saw the toy stall. He wanted to buy a toy but he didn't know how to ask his brother and uncle for it, he wasn't the kind of kid who would ask for anything or show interest in anything, but this time he so much wished they could stop.
This didn't go unnoticed by Lan Qiren as he asked, " Wanji...do you need anything here? Xichen can go buy it for you" Lan Zhan faced the floor and shook his head, but Lan Xichen knew how much he wanted to buy a toy from the toy stall because it was the only place he kept his eyes on longer when they passed by. They reached Yungmeng City in six hours and Lan Xichen had to ask his uncle to stop the carriage. " Uncle...can I please take Wanji to the stalls so he could see what he could buy? Please uncle, we won't waste time" Lan Xichen asked and Lan Qiren seemed to be thinking for a while, he was thinking that maybe Lan Zhan needed to see people more often and he didn mind as long as they were with the desciples.
" You can go, but you need to take two desciples with you just incase, and don't be late, meet me here in an hour. I'm going to the tea house over there and if you come back and I'm still not back yet then you can ask one of the desciples to come call me." Lan Xichen was so exited for his brother to explore the city and he so wished they would find a toy stall so that his brother found something he liked like the previous stall Caiyi city. They got off and Lan Xichen held Lan Zhan's hand and before he could take two steps Lan Zhan had already took his hand back from his brother. Lan Xichen was so confused because this was what Lan Zhan liked the most, for his brother to hold his hand whenever he needed to.
Lan Xichen couldn't say anything as Lan Zhan walked ahead and looked at the stalls for something he might like, it's not like he didn't have money, but Lan Zhan thought money was useless and people would fight for a piece of silver and even kill each other for it so...something like that was something he didn't want to carry around with him. Lan Xichen caught up with him and asked " Wanji...is there anything you like here?" Lan Xichen asked knowing very well that his little brother would refuse him even if he was to buy something for him so he waited for Lan Zhan to answer him and he was so relieved that he didn't say NO!
Lan Zhan kept looking around at the stalls until he saw something that stole his attention from anything else, it was a toy drum which had a string attached to the ball and the small drum,it was small enough for a child to swing around lightly and Lan Xichen knew Lan Zhan wanted it since he looked at it twice. " Wanji...do you want this?" Lan Zhan was infront of Lan Xichen with his back facing him and his movements halted, Lan Xichen found this strange and walked to the front and he widened his eyes and quickly looked around to see if anyone was looking at them. He knew there might be a lot of commotion around then and people might crowd them and Lan Zhan who didn't like that might find it very uncomfortable, he looked at Lan Zhan and saw that his chest was glowing red but this time it was too brighter than it had ever been before, it's pulsating pace was also quicker than it ever had been before. Lan Xichen stood infront of Lan Zhan blocking people's view so that he wasn't seen.
Without warning, Lan Zhan walked to the other side of the markert and Lan Xichen followed him until he they heard faint screams coming from the other side of the street further away from them. Lan Zhan's feet seemed to control themselve as he walked to the screams like he knew exactly where the the one screaming was, they got to the part of the street where people seemed to be going about like nothing was happening. Lan Xichen was now confused since he knew that if the screams they heard asking for help were coming from there, people would've help already. He looked at Lan Zhan and by now he was tearing up without making a sound, his tears were streaming out silently and Lan Xichen could see that he was in pain.
He didn't know where how but he knew that what was happening to Lan Zhan might be linked to the bruises on his arms, he looked around to looked for someone he could ask about what they had just heard and everyone was just took busy to talk to them. He asked and they ignored and now he knew that even if the screams came from there no one would pay attention unless if the one asking was a buyer then they would get the answers they needed. He looked around searching for a child who might because the screaming voice was that of a child, he never left Lan Zhan even for a second because he knew he might loose him in the crowd. Lan Zhan was standing still and by now his sight was unbearable for his brother to see, he now had a blank expression on his face with a look that seemed like the world was too big for him to handle and Lan Xichen couldn't let that happen, not to his beloved brother.
He looked at Lan Zhan and with a soft voice he spoke " Wanji...find your soulmate, he is here right now and you know he needs your help. Wanji!...find him now!" Those words were like a jolt of power to Lan Zhan, he wiped his tears and blinked once looking around, then twice and when he blinked the third time he inhaled deeply and when he exhaled everything around then seemed to have changed.
