Years passed by and Lan Zhan was now thirteen years old, his health was better than it had ever been, all thanks to the training he obtained years ago in the spirit realm when he was badly injured by Su She. He had now master's all the healing and calming music scores and he was excelling in it. He was learning everyday and everything seemed to be working in his favour since that incident with Su She. He woke up after six months of sleeping while his wounds healed and a few days later after he had woken up, Lan Qiren asked him the most unpleasant questions of all. That was what he was willing to do regarding Su She's attack.
He had told them to not punish him harsh but by only copying fifty thousands copies of the Lan rules to ensure that next time he follows the rules that he himself had read and wrote. Everyone was shocked by his way of punishment since they had anticipated that he would atleast ask them to give him a few lashes, but that was not how a peaceful world was according to Lan Zhan. Su She remained in the secluded room for a year and copied the Lan clan rules, he had already apologised to Lan Zhan but knowing Lan Zhan as having a few words he didn't answer, but Xichen knew he had already forgiven him. Lan Zhan's punishment was added to the Kan clan rules and the elders decide that when he come of a rightful age, he would take the responsibility of punishment as he saw fit.
Lan Xichen was so proud of his brother's achievements that he asked his uncle if he could permit Lan Zhan to have his own room since he saw that his spiritual training was excelling in every way aswell as his studies. Lan Qiren agreed to do so but Lan Zhan hasitated after the offer which made Lan Xichen question him if he was fine with the arrangement. Lan Zhan asked his uncle if he could live in his mother's chambers and Lan Qiren denied him the request. After a few more days Lan Xichen saw how his brother was sad from being denied his only wish since he was born, he had never asked for anything before and he had only two wishes in his life, one being to live in his mother's chambers and the other was to be asked a few more years to come when the time was right. That was all.
He asked his uncle if he could atleast think about it and he could allow Lan Zhan access to their mother's house for the time being until he grows old enough to take care if himself before he allows him to live in the house. Lan Xichen was now fifteen and soon will be given the clan leader's position after his final training. Lan Qiren had nothing else to say since he saw and knew very well that Lan Xichen could take decisions for himself and his brother since he was capable. He was his brother and that house was their rightful birth place, he understood that Lan Xichen only asked him out of respect. He was the one to make final decisions regarding his brother since his mother's final request was for Lan Xichen to take very good care of Lan Zhan.
He agreed and atleast Lan Zhan was given permission to enter the premises however he wanted, but he was not to spend the night there or go there in the evening but only after he comes back from school. Lan Zhan was more than happy with the arrangement since he felt that being in there would bring him closer to his mother. He had been going to the the Jingshi for three days and had been doing his homework, sometimes practicing his martial skills, meditating and also reading some books he found on his mother's desk. The house was left as if was eleven years ago after their death and it was only regularly cleaned and dusted after every second day, so it wasn't a suprise for Lan Zhan to find the books his mother used to give to him to read stacked right where she used to put them.
Lan Zhan had started reading the books and was then on the third book reading without stopping, like he did years ago. He used to read a book and finish it and go on to the second one, but if he didnt finish reading all the books then the next time he reads he would start from the first book again and created an unending cycle for himself. He was very young back then but his mindset was the same if not better, if he doesn't finish all five books then it meant he wasn't ready to become who he was to become. He finished the fourth book and was about to read the fifth and final one when he heard a knock at the door. He went to see who it was and he was happy that it was his brother, who had never stepped foot in his mother's house since the day she asked Lan Xichen to take care of his brother...that was the very day his mother and father had died.
" Xiongzhang...please come in" Lan Zhan said to his brother and Lan Xichen smiled and came in, feeling nervous that he had ever been. He looked around and found that nothing had changed since then. He smiled again and looked at his dear beloved brother. " Wanji...do you know...the last time I was here was the day that mother had asked me to look after you. I was young back then to take care of myself let alone you, it was until years later that I realised what she meant. She wanted me to right by your side no matter what, whether things were good or bad I should always be right next to you. I understand now that there will come the time when you will need me the most, I know you don't like to ask for anything and I would like to think that when that day comes you will ask for my advice." Lan Xichen sat down and continued.
Lan Zhan kept standing waiting for permission form his brother to sit down. He was indeed the chosen, the most powerful of all mortals but...he never forgot his atiquettes. No matter who he was, his brother was his elder and that would not change. He sat down and looked to the table infront of them, avoiding his emotions to be read by his brother. "Wanji...please sit down" Lan Zhan sat down and Lan Xichen continued " I would also like to think that I know you, the little that that I know is more than enough because no matter what.. your are and will always be my dear Didi. Like right now...you're avoiding my eyes to hide how emotional you are right now, but you don't have to Wanji.
Remember that you are the one who gave me this gift to read your emotions and expressions, you should know better than I do by now that avoiding my gaze will not hide anything from me. Wanji...it's okay to feel what you feel right now, I know you didn't spend enough time with mother, but I didn't spend much time with her either because I was living with uncle at that time. I wanted to better my calming music scores for you that I chose to stay with uncle to succeed that for you. I do not have any regrets and I hope you won't either because what has happened is what should've happened.
I hope you let go of the pain and guilt you feel right now and know that there was absolutely nothing you could've done back then to save mother. If you did then all her struggles and hardships would have been in vain. She wanted to leave a gift for you before she passed on and that gift was to save her precious son at all costs, by herself. She achieved that and she did not have any regrets, you know...she was smiling when I left and then right then and then...at that exact moment I realsised...that she was so proud of us, she was so happy and thankful to be given the life that she was given with father.I was still very young but I understood"
