CHAPTER 42

" Uncle Jiang Fengmian...how is Wei Ying I hope he's doing great? " Jiang Fengmian didn't want to tell him the truth about his wife abusing Wei Ying so...he just said what he said to directly inform Lan Xichen that he was still well. He knew there were some sort of relationship between Wei Ying and the Lan brothers so he told him " he had fever that day, a severe one which made him unable to remember anything. I didn't want to force him to remember you because I didn't know what would happen to him. "

" But how can that be possible? He can't just have fever...I mean how?" Lan Xichen was so confused knowing very well that Wei Ying and Lan Zhan had special powers that no human possessed and would never possess if the Gods were unwilling, they were soulmates that were destined to eradicate evil in the mortal world together, side by side. He knew Lan Zhan had powers even though he had never seen more of it, but the little that he saw was not just a normal cultivator's power. Their golden cores bonded together in a way that he had never heard of before. Now the news of Wei Ying having to loose his memory just like that didn't make any sense to him.

He knew Lan Zhan had hid some things regarding the two of them from him and now he thought that maybe he hid them from him for a reason. He thought maybe that reason was paying the ultimate price for having that much power so he didn't want to worry him. But that was not it, he didn't tell him simply because he wanted to protect his older brother, Lan Zhan had indeed transfere Wei Ying's core power back to him but it was not generating power as it should becaise his powers were blocked, not by the evil spirits...but by the Gods. They had their reasons which they hid from both of them, even so... Lan Zhan wasn't the type to ask if not told, if the Gods wanted him to know then they would tell him. That was his way if thinking from the time he knew about Wei Ying.

" Xichen...how can he not, don't mortals get sick? He isn't the only one to loose his memory after contracting high fever, infact there are a few that I know of both from my clan and other clans aswell. Some had their memories back after the fever subsided and some didn't even to this day. So you see... it's very common" " but uncle...you don't understand...Wei Ying is not ju–.."  " oh Xichen...you're here...I was about to send someone for you. It's good that you're here" Lan Qiren and Jiang Fengmian nodded to each other as a way of simply just saying hi because they were good friends and Lan Qiren sat down and poured himself tea.

" Xichen...I wanted to tell you about that...that..Su She...he had done the most offensive crime and the elders and I have reached a decision. He must be banished from our clan immediately!" Lan Qiren was furious thinking about what Su She had done to his nephew. " Uncle..if we banish Su She wouldn't it be the same as banishing elder Su?...he's still very young to fend for himself and you know that uncle Subis his only family after his parents died. Please rethink your decision." " Xichen...why are you defending him? You know very well what he had done to your brother and yet you still defend him? You're still young to be taking decisions anyway and my word is final as your uncle and as the active Lan clan leader!

" Uncle...I'm not defying your decision, but uncle...taking decisions in a time like this would end in hurting more people who are not even involved in this matter. Uncle Su has an important his here and that is keeping the evil spirits imprisoned and if he goes away then that evil will terrorise members of our clan. You still haven't found desciples who could be trained for those sorts of things. Besides...you and I know how costly it is to take rash decisions. I'm sorry uncle...but I think it's best we wait for Wanji to wake up first" Lan Qiren glared at Lan Xichen after reminding him what he had done to his mother which cost her life, he stroked his beard and looked the other direction thinking about something.

He remembered those rash decisions which were taken by him in the heat of the moment and the result was Lan Xichen and Lan Zhan growing up without their parents.
He remembered that indeed that decision could affect those who are innocent just like how it affected his dear older brother. He thought for a few minutes, uninterrupted by those beside him and he had finally reached a conclusion. " Xichen...I see you're already becoming a clan leader at a young age,行 (*ok*) I will let this go until Wanji wakes up, in the time being I will find someone who can Elder Su can teach the underground world protection and security. So tell me... how's Wanji? " " He's fine uncle, his leg is still not different but the swelling in his face is slowly going down. And it seems like there won't be scars either, that is a good thing atleast."

" Hâo...Hèng hâo" (*good...very good*)
" Fengmian..how is that boy you took back from the pierre? Is he well? "  " Well...he had fever and unfortunately he lost his memory due to that fever so I think he might not remember many things if not everything. He huh...("sigh*) he had gone through so much and yet it seems like bad luck if following him everywhere. His father was my most trusted friend and I was the one who told him to run away with his mother in fear that they were in danger. She was pregnant at the time and she ran away first and later he tracks her down and saved her. Now...it looks like the same evil is following him around like it did to his parents."

" Uncle...what do you mean?" " Nothing Xichen...I'm just an old man blabbering around senseless words, don't mind me" Jiang Fengmian smile at Lan Xichen hiding the truth behind his meaning. " Fengmian...who were his parents?" " You might know them...his father was my most trusted personal assistant and his mother...well you know his mother. When elder Sanren came here when Wanji was born... remember he brought along her desciple?...Cangse Sanren. She is Wei Ying's mother." "Wha-..what d-..did you-...say...Cang-..Cangse...? His can that be...?" Lan Qiren's breath hitched and he felt like his chest was being punched and the air was being forced out of his lungs as his face paled and his eyes bulged out.

Jiang Fengmian knew the history between the two and he understood his feelings very well, but that was how things were and he couldn't keep it from his friend, there was clearly no other way to bring out the news and he answered what Lan Qiren had asked.
" Uncle...what's wrong...are you okay?" Lan Xichen became worried looking at the condition his uncle was in. " Oh..yes I'm fine...it's just...she was...I was...I just didn't expect it that's all. You also know her right Xichen?"

" Yes uncle...but I did not know she was Wei Ying's mother, I know I was very young back then but I still remember her clearly. Thinking about it now...I can say Wei Ying took his charming smile from her" Lan Xichen chuckled a little and the elders besides him chuckled as well, agreeing to what he just said. They were smiling thinking about Cangse and her son's smile, but Lan Qiren was thinking about his long lost lover whom he never got a chance to tell how he felt.
