Chapter Thirty Four: Magnolia Cottage

"Well, Moony and I are making progress." Sirius told Opal as they were getting ready to leave for Marlene's. "He passed me the marmalade at breakfast."

"You don't even like marmalade."

"No, but he still passed me the jar, that means I'm closer to him talking to me." he replied, putting on a hoodie James had lent him.

"Well after that howler he did seem to soften up a little." Opal said.

Sirius nodded. "Yeah, Reg sent a letter this morning. I am officially disowned, she burnt my face off the wall."

"Good thing, right?"

"It's a brilliant thing."

Opal smiled, they made their way downstairs where the boys were waiting for them.

"Who's going again?" Remus asked Opal.

"Us, the girls, their parents and a few of Marlene's family. My dad's meeting us there, he wants to meet his future students." she replied.

"Ooh, Prongs is gonna meet his 'future in-laws' today." Sirius joked, but James shook his head.

"After a lot of thinking, I've decided to give up on Lily." he said, looking at all of them. "She's never gonna go on a date with me, so there's no point."

Peter walked up to him, touching his forehead.

"What are you doing, Worms?"

"I'm checking your temperature, you never say things like this."

James pushed Peter's hand away. "Everyone's thinking the same thing, it's pointless. She doesn't even like me back so it's just weird now."

"Wow. James Potter is all grown up." Sirius said, ruffling his hair.

"Never thought I'd see the day." Remus added.

"Now that song you wrote is wasted."

"Shove off guys, you all said they were terrible lyrics and my singing was bad." James said, moving his head out of Sirius' reach.

Celestine, Euphemia and Fleamont walked into the drawing room.

"Ready?"

They floo'd to Magnolia house, they made their way into the garden, Marlene was setting up the table with Dorcas and Mary who were already there.

"Opal!" Dorcas shouted, running towards her friend.

"Hey Cas!" Opal said, hugging her. Mary and Marlene walked towards them saying hello.

"Any of you vegetarians?" Marlene asked, she pointed towards her younger brother.  "Liam is, so my dad bought some veggie burgers."

"Nah, I'm sure Lily is though." Remus said.

"I thought so." Marlene said. "She's coming in a bit, James please-"

"Oh no, you haven't heard yet?" Sirius spoke up. "Our loverboy here is no longer lover, he is just a boy."

"Huh?" Mary asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

James rolled his eyes.

"James here is dropping his hopes and dreams and will venture out single- well he's always been single -- but he is no longer interested in Lily Evans." Peter told the girls.

Dorcas walked towards James, putting her hand on his forehead.

"Oh not you too, Cas." he swatted her hand away.

"I'm just checking if you're ill, which you clearly are."

"Ugh, you guys mock me when I talk to her, now I'm going to stop you guys won't stop mocking me."
