30th July 1981

A week had passed since James, Lily, and Harry went into hiding. A week since Opal and Sirius had got married. And it hadn't exactly been the Honeymoon they had expected.

"Did you pick up Harry's birthday present?" She asked Sirius as he nodded walking out of their bedroom.

"Yeah, I sent it to them this morning so it should be there when he wakes up tomorrow."

She had a permanent pit of sadness in her stomach as they weren't able to spend Harry's first birthday together. But Opal swore to herself when they were able to, she was going to throw the biggest party she could, just to celebrate it.

"You off to Headquarters?" Sirius asked as she put her cloak on.

"Yeah, I just need to check on some things, I'll be back later." She kissed his cheek and ruffled Sapphire's hair before grabbing a handful of Floo powder.

It was a strange feeling walking through the halls of Potter Manor knowing that James wouldn't be turning a corner to greet her or Lily wouldn't be in the drawing room.

"Oh you look nice, Cas," Opal said as she walked into the Drawing room to see Dorcas wearing a short yellow dress with small white flowers all over it.

"It's not too much is it?" she asked, nervously.

"No, you look perfect," Mary nodded.

"What's the occasion?"

Dorcas let out a deep breath, "I'm going to meet Marlene's parents... again but officially as her girlfriend."

"You are!" Opal said, excitedly.

"Yeah, she stayed the night," she said. "Her dad is still a little bit off with her... but she said he's making small talk, I spoke to her before she went to bed."

"Don't forget the flowers," Mary reminded her, giving her a bunch of sunflowers on the table.

"Are you sure I look okay?"

"You look great, Cas," Opal nodded.

"Okay, I better go, I said I'd join them for brunch." she chewed the inside of her cheek.

"Cas, they loved you before. They'll love you again," Opal said, "Now go, because if Marlene is kept waiting for her breakfast she's gonna be in a bad mood."

Dorcas smiled brightly, "Thanks Opes."

She took another large deep breath before leaving to apparate.

"She'll be fine," Mary said, leaning back on the chair, "Marls told me that her mum really likes Cas, plus who could hate Cas? That's just criminal."

Opal picked at the many Daily Prophets laid on the table, nothing really caught her attention, she frowned as she heard a crack from the hallway.

Dorcas ran in, her face filled with panic.

"You're back soon," Mary said.

"Dorcas, what's happened?" Opal asked, her brows furrowed concernedly.

"Marlene!" She struggled to talk between her rapid breaths. "The Dark Mark! It's over her house!" Her eyes were fighting back tears, as she shook her head. "I didn't go inside, I don't want to go alone,"

Opal grabbed her wand from her pocket. "We need to go there now,"

The three girls apparated to Magnolia Cottage, Opal had vivid memories of the last time she had been there, the summer before her sixth year. The summer before her parents were killed. The dark mark glowed green over the house, the darkness thickened as they walked closer, Opal in front of them with her wand out in front of her, Mary and Dorcas followed her lead.
